SHAME on you!
You might want to at least interview the athlete or talk with his coach before publicly stating stuff based on assumptions with the intent of sensationalizing what was a tragic situation for a promising young runner.
This was no ridiculous stunt by an unprepared athlete. He had proved himself competitive in this field of athletes in previous meets. His times placed him among the top contenders before the state meet. Just the year before he placed 2nd at Junior Olympic Nationals. He understood his physiological limits and was physically ready for this challenge.
What happened is as of yet unexplained, but he ended up in the hospital for three days. I don't have permission to divulge what medical condition it was, but overexertion was not the cause.
No one felt it more than him when he regained full consciousness and realized how his finish affected the team score. He, though just a freshman, feels a great responsibility about the team concept. He has proven it by organizing team activities beyond practices. He gets it!!
AGAIN SHAME ON YOU!!!
