Hi all, thanks to those of you who have helped greatly in the past. I am currently trying to figure out why my 5k time is so slow relative to my mile and 800 times.
I am a 32 year old male and have been running for about a year and a half after a 16 year layoff. My previous pr's were 501 for mile, 212 for half, 11 min for two mile, 18 flat for 5k, 1 hour, 30 seconds for ten miles off of 4 years of 40mpw and tons of intervals but no offseason running(age 16)
I currently am in the coordination phase of a lydiard schedule and did a solid base but most of the runs were 9 min per mile or slower, save for the tempo days, and did around 60 mpw most of the summer followed by a month of hills and a month of intervals (3 miles worth of 200s, 400s, 800s, mile repeats, 2x per week).
My problem is that I have recently run a mile in 5:17 and an 800 in 2:18 (the two were months apart, the 800 more recent) and yet I've not broken 20 minutes in 4 attempts at 5k. Can you guys please help me pinpoint where I went wrong during all this training? Was it during base? In the intervals? Other? Thank you very much in advance.
