I did run the Army Ten Miler today and it was a disaster. 62:20 after running 57:40 last year. I knew I wasn't as fit as last year, but I didn't think I would do THAT bad. I just had nothing today.
However, last night I presided over our Command Dining Out in downtown DC and by 2200 I had already made several trips to the whiskey-based Grog. I wasn't going to let those young pups out drink the old man. I'm not a big hard liquor drinker, but let's just say that the Mrs. drove home. Four hours of sleep after whiskey shooters is not exactly a recipe for success at a Ten Miler. At mile four I was still doing ok, but by mile six I had a wicked side stitch and felt like I was going to puke. I fought on, however. I was wearing one of my Navy singlets this year and there was no freakin' way I was dropping out of the Army Ten Miler wearing a Navy singlet. Plus, every time passed a wounded warrior running I told myself to stop bitchin' and man up. After I finished I picked up my bag and actually fell asleep on a patch of grass before my wife turned up after running a PR this year. Good for her.
At least Navy put a beat down on Notre Dame this year. Go Navy!
Off to Hawaii, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore starting this coming Saturday for 2 weeks. Going to take a big break from running. I think I need it.
Have a great week everyone. Good luck at MCM dhaaga!
