World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler has been detained by police in handcuffs after a misunderstanding with traffic flow led to his attempt to drive past a police officer into Valhalla Golf Club. The police officer attempted to attach himself to Scheffler’s car.
The second round of the PGA has been delayed. Has the cop gone too far?
Another case of an cop who probably got bullied as a child, power tripping as an adult as soon as he gets a ounce of power/authority. When I was in the military you'd see similar nonsense from people as soon as they become NCOs.
“When he didn’t stop, the police officer attached himself to the vehicle, Scheffler then traveled another 10 yards before stopping the car."
This is why he was arrested and rightfully so. Drivers have been shot by police for dragging an officer like that. He got lucky.
Good thing he’s white!
Some details iyou missed:
It was pitch black outside, the cop was wearing a yellow rain jacket which completely covered his uniform. Scheffler thought the guy was just a security guy.
Did he have a reason to attach himself to the car in the first place? If not, getting dragged is appropriate.
Maybe, maybe not. Guy was driving on the median around a crash scene where a pedestrian had been killed. I don’t know the layout of the scene or the circumstances at the time to know whether the driving constituted a major safety hazard, but there was a reason the cop told him multiple times to stop.
look at it this way: If they could have rerouted traffic through that area to keep it moving at that time, they probably would have done so.
If other people don’t get greenlighted to drive there, the rules don’t change for Scheffler, pro golfer or not. He asked an ESPN reporter for help after the incident. Why not ask the cop if there’s anything he could do for him before the fact, hoping that he’d get leniency for going only a brief distance from the scene and for a legitimate reason? If not, the answer is to sit there, wait, and then tell people later that the cop was a jerk for not helping out. Instead, he chose to play eff around and find out.
its ok to drive off if it was 'just' a security guard? its still clearly asault.
so are they just going to let him off because he is famous? he has to go to the station, get booked and charged, missing the event. no other course of action possible without rampant favaouritism.
Yes, SS is in the wrong here. What does “attached himself to the car” mean? Did he jump onto the car?
As a former combat medic, there are 100 reasons why a golfer shouldn’t match the price of his doughnut.
Let’s find out what happened first. Why would a cop (dressed as a parking lot attendant) attach himself to a golfers courtesy car and put his life in danger. Cops suck. Or at least the overall majority.
Actually one of the most dangerous things in society is when a cop who was either or some or all of: bullied as a child, rejected by/didn't have good experience with women, didn't feel loved from his supposed father figure. Then they get in a position of authority/power and think they'll show thw world what they can do on a power trip.
A man was killed by a bus. There was an ongoing investigation. Scheffler drove around the accident investigation on the median totally ignoring the police.
It was pitch black outside, the cop was wearing a yellow rain jacket which completely covered his uniform. Scheffler thought the guy was just a security guy.
This is embarrassing for the police dept.
Yea I agree, the truth is often in between. Scottie was prob using some license as someone who is the star of the show going around a little traffic back up near the entrance. Who knows if he saw the cop in the pitch dark waving his arms or whatever. Cop has every right to go over and figure out the situation. BUT got way out of hand. Cuffing and stuffing him was the last official duty that guy will have.
