Getting ready for a marathon on Nov 28th. I had heard that barefoot running would strengthen my feet, which is something I feel I need, so about a month ago I started doing doing some short, slow barefoot runs on the treadmill several times per week.
Last night I figured I could bump up the pace a little. I only ran a couple miles or so which I have done in the past with no issue, but apparently the added pace made all the difference, and today my calves are quite sore. It's crazy because I thought I my legs were plenty strong--I've been doing the usual 20 miler, interval session, & tempo run every week for the past few months. My barefoot gait seems to be much more bouncy--almost a plyometric-type feel--so I guess that's what did it.
Anyway I had intended to run a twenty miler tonight, but with sore calves I don't know if it's smart. Should do it, or put it off a day or two to let my calves recover?
