I go to a decent school (if the U.S. News rankings are anything to go by it is a top 50 school) and I walked onto the team here (D1). I get along great with my teammates and we are all good friends, and I like my coach's philosophy and have improved a bunch and get along well with my coach.
I have also gotten really good grades and my parents (who are paying for most of my education) want me to transfer to a better school that is a bit closer to home (again if US News rankings are anything to go by, this school is ranked ~15-20 places or so higher than my current school).
Out of high school I probably wouldn't have been able to run for this school but I think I can now. The thing is that this school is not known for producing good runners, they get good runners but don't do anything with them. The school I go to now is better than this school running wise, and runners improve much more consistently (like me).
I am not sure what to do. I didn't get into the school I am considering transferring to initially but now I definitely have the grades to get in. My parents want me to focus on academics and don't care much about running, and so that's why they want me to transfer. And I care about academics too, but I feel like I am very lucky to be on a team where I have improved a lot and have a great relationship with my teammates, coach, etc.
So I am basically torn about what to do, stay or transfer. Any suggestions? What would you do in this situation?
