Thanks.
Not sure Meb's time will make it by years end , lots of sub 2:08-2:09's being run ! Just saw on the site here the Eindhoven result , 3 guys racing to the finish at 2:07 pace !
Thanks.

Here are the top 100 in 2010 through Chicago. Hall and Meb (Bos) are the only US runners to make the list.
The count by country is:

USA, 2
BRA, 1
ERI, 1
KOR, 1

Your list is incorrect. The correct one is here:
http://www.iaaf.org/statistics/toplists/inout=o/age=n/season=2010/sex=M/all=n/legal=A/disc=MAR/detail.htmlApart from Sunday's Eindhoven and Carpi marathons your list is missing the Ottawa Marathon on May 30, the top 3 of which make the IAAF top 100:
1. Arata Fujiwara (JPN) - 2:09:34
2. Laban Moiben (KEN) - 2:09:44
3. Bazu Worku (ETH) - 2:09:54
Times from aided courses should also not be counted.

Thanks for pointing out the missing Ottawa times. I recognize Boston is aided but included it because the top 2 US times were recorded there. The iaaf list includes it as well. My main point was to emphasize to what extent 2 countries completely dominate the men's marathon today with Kenya and Ethiopia having over 90 of the top 100 times. It doesn't really seem like that will change in the near future.
I don't mind these guys wanting to run 2'10. I do not consider them the best elite runners we have in the US. i do mind that the better runners think they are great and awesome and are in the last 20% of this year's times. If they cannot run sub-2'10 I don't care what they say, just hope they run PR's. If you say you can run with the best in the world, you better run sub-2'07 consistently. Let's see what happens in New York, not fast but anything can happen if Wanjiru runs 2'06 sick and in warm conditions.
Bizuneh, Carney and Young are all roughly 30 years old and have been running marathons for 4 years. They are 4-6 minutes away from their goal of breaking 2:10. I was on the course at 10k and they were already hurting. YOUR GOAL IS NOT REALISTIC. It is also disrespectful to all those marathoners that have run sub 2:10 to act like you belong in their league. What you have run for 10k or even a half marathon is meaningless when it comes to the marathon. The fact that you don't understand that makes you look foolish and leads to other excuses like weather or pacing or.............
and how many on this list do you think are clean?

I have no idea. Do you?
I agree that the Marathon is a different animal from the 10k/half but to say those times are meaningless is rediculous. They should have high expectations because Carney and Fasil's case they have broken 28. There is no reason for someone that has run that fast in the 10k to try to run 2:14. Why would they waste their time running a mediocre Marathon instead of sticking to the Half and 10k.
If they are going to run they Marathon at all then they have to shoot for a good time, and thats what they did.
In J young's case, he's already run 2:12 so he should try to run faster as well.
Justin Young has a pb of 2:13:54 on a flying fast Rotterdam course. His second fastest time is 2:16:54 in Vienna. He is 31 years old.
Bizuneh has run 2:16:47 pb at The Olympic rials--3years ago
He is 30 years oldCarney has a pb of 2:15:50 also in Rotterdam with his second fastest being 2:16:54 att the trials. He is 32 years old
Not sure about concord's top 100 list... I don't think Tsegay Kebede ran Prague and Berlin as well as London and Chicago. In fact, looking at the Berlin results, it was one Yemane Kebede that came 4th in 2:07:52.

Almost as disrespectful as thinking you are in any position to tell your betters how to act and what they should and should not say

You are correct. There are errors in my list. My apologies, I am guilty of not cross checking. I have attempted to reconcile the iaaf and all time performances lists. There are still discrepancies - for example iaaf does not include LA results. There are also numerous name and country inconsistencies. For example, the iaaf lists Yaser Belal Mansour from QAT at 2:09.21 at Barcelona but the race site lists Bellor Yator from KEN with that time. Probably the same person.
Here is the cross-checked version, but there may still be more errors. And for the purists, I dropped aided courses.

You dropped "aided" courses to help your point, not any other reason. By dropping it you drop the two USA runners in the top 100. We all know boston is way way slower then Berlin, rotterdam, london, paris, and a dozen other courses in Europe and Asia where most of these fast times were run.
Honestly time lists are a poor way to rate marathoners- heck Meb has never run under 2:09 which makes him mediocre but he has a career that all but a handful of the kenyan 2;04 to 2:06 guys would kill for.
If Nick Arcinagia had run rotterdam instead of rock and roll he probably would have a 2:09 to his name. Don't believe me? well they have had over 20 sub 2:07 marathoners run there and the course record is still only 2:09.
how about some honesty wrote:

Geez, someone asked for a list of the top 100 times and I obliged. Someone else complained about including aided courses so I dropped them for the second list. If you noticed I included Boston in the first one.
I wasn't really trying to make any point. I was just commenting on the number of top marathon time run by Kenyans and East Africans. Nothing more. If you don't like the way I presented the data next time put together the lists yourself and you can display it any way you want.
I'm done with this thread.
