The only one of the 4 runners you mentioned who blabbed about running 2:09 was bizunah. As far as I recall, the others all said that 2:10 would be nice, but that they would be happy with a pr regardless. Get your facts straight...

Amsterdam and Frankfurt this month, as well as Fukuoka in December will change this, but here it is.
Impressive to me are:
1) The sheer number of 2:05 times. Of the 36 2:05 performances in history, eight came this year.
2) Jaouad Gharib running yet another PB at 37. This guy is incredible.
3) Outside of the obvious choices like Rotterdam, Berlin, London and Dubai are fast times from Prague, Boston (!) and Seoul. Living in Seoul and having run in the race which produced a 2:06, I'm happy to say 대한민국 만세!

Personally I like it when guys say what they are shooting for; the press wants to hear that and it is good for the sport. I am not sure what fans are looking for, you get upset when don’t talk and upset when they do. If you run hard and come up a little short, there is no shame in that. U.S. marathoners tend to be very analytical and I suspect guys are simple stating their goals based on what their training suggests.
Ok , we may get a couple of Japanese runners at Fuk , few more Ken & Eth runners to round it out for the year , bottom line maybe no americans in the top 100 marathon times for the year ?
Chicago was a great example of what elite world class marathoning has become , racing at 2:06 pace , not hanging on to finish as the top american. Mind set has to change or the gap just widens as more young non US runners come into the sport running faster and faster.

Very solid advice, the lovers on the Michael Wardian thread should hear this and Michael Wardian should quit claiming he can run a 2:14 if he just stopped racing as much. Same thing with Nate Jenkins claiming he can run a 2:10
