Texas women will surprise some people!

Wow, they put out a nice recruiting video on their own website and now they're team is an NCAA qualifier all of a sudden? You'll fall for anything.
Also after looking at their schedule, it will be surprising to see them on a starting line this season. They don't race much. One race before conference?
I appreciate the theory of not over-racing and being on fresh legs when the big meets start, but they're going to be severely under-raced and not have the kinks worked out in time for those big races. Their newer runner will not know what's going to hit them at conference and regionals. Then their season is over, just like that. Not a good planning strategy for a college team.
They're required by the NCAA to run at least 6 meets.
They have raced twice already so that does not add up to one race before conference. They also go to Pre Nationals in Indiana in October. 3 races before the Big 12 conference.
Did you not read my post? I said:

Their schedule doesn't have but one meet before conference. I guess they're going to keep us all guessing, along with surprising us?
seriously? they're in the weakest region. they'll be lucky to make it to NCAAs...if they even do. get real. that region's a joke.
Um...isn't that counterintuitive? As in, being in the the weakest region should make it MORE likely that they will make it to NCAA's by being in the top two?Pretty sure in that region it was regularly an Arkansas, Rice, Texas affair on the men's side when Vigilante was there. Not sure what the woman's side looks like this year, but I believe the Lady Razorbacks and Owls usually compete well @ Regionals too. Texas would have to beat one of those teams I imagine.Speaking of Vig, he used the same approach to racing...low-level meets before conference, then roll out a well-rested team. I don't see anything wrong with that, and as someone already mentioned, this women's team looks like it is racing @ Pre-Nats in a week. Let's see how they do there.

The fact that any region as a whole is weak has nothing to do with the dominant teams in the region. Texas, arkansas, or whoever, on the mens and womens side could field a national champion caliber team, and it would still be a weak region. It's not up to to the top two teams to make it a strong region, but the quality of the teams who don't automatically qualify. As long as they don't get last...who cares anyway. The Texas men qualified out of the "weakest region" last year and still managed to beat 3 teams...sounds like they definitely belong. This weakest region stuff is bullshit.
I would argue that it is easier to QUALIFY for nationals in a region where you do not have 5 or 6 strong contending teams for the top 2 auto-qualifiers than a region where there ARE 5 or 6 strong contending teams.
The reason being that if you only have 3 strong contenders for the top two spots, one of the teams may have an off day (illness, 5th team placer can't get it together, etc.), making it easier to work right into the auto-qualifier. You wouldn't still be racing several other teams for that #2 spot. make sense?
That being said, I agree that just because you come from a weak region does not mean you don't belong at NCAA's. When Texas and Arkansas would battle it out under Vigilante in the supposedly weak region, the Horns usually ended up in the top 10, and Arkansas did well at the big dance too.
Uhhhh, I see 4 meets on the schedule unless you mean to say they have only one significant meet. This under racing thing has been pretty popular of late but really, how many races does it take to "have the kinks worked out"?
Texas doesn't have cross country teams. Maybe back in the day but they haven't been so hot on the men's side in years and the women have never been good. Texas seems to be a track school.

Going back to the original question.. The Women CC squad seems like they have at least steadily improved over the last couple yrs. They were expected to do well in their first two meets, and at least they met those early meet expectations. Seems like they are on the right track. We'll see how they stack at pre-nationals. Hope they can make nationals, but it'll be important how they recruit in the next yr or two. If they can pull another distance stud or two, they could be very good with the coach they have. Anyone know how they are recruiting at least?
You guys are missing the point.
This was a post about girls.
The poster included a video.
There are some hotties on that team.
And he basically supplied pics.
Which is what we request everytime anyone mentions girls.
Because that's the only way we'll interact with them.
Obvious to me wrote:

This is the correct answer.
I wouldn't consider South Central weak on the women's side Baylor, Arkansas, SMU, Texas, and Rice are all in that region. 5 teams for 2 spots. Plus up and coming teams this year such as SFA TAMU and TAMUCC. In my opinion they match up pretty will with the south and southeast.
I think I've seen everything now.
Not only a thread about Texas Cross Country but one about Texas Women's Cross Country.
I clicked on this thread expecting to read about how hot these girls were
Yup. You've seen it all...

Ummm...Austin really isn't in "Texas".
