That is insane. I mean, seriously, unless the recovery was like 5 min, to do 9X800 @ an average of sub-2:00 pace, approaching the low 1:50's is something I've never heard of, and I've interacted plenty with elite runners.

Actually, I believe he had posted a couple of really good 3000's prior to this year. I think his pr was/is 7:36 from 2008, which I think he matched this year?
With that 3000 pr I always thought he could scare sub 13. And 3:35-3:36 is damn good for not being a miler. So prior to this year he was better at 1500/3000 than 5000.

you also, despite interacting with all of your elite runners, have only ever heard of one american high school kid running a 3:53 and one american guy running a 3:46 mile, and a 27:34 10k debut, and also a 1:43.
People really do not understand how genetically gifted this man is. Does anyone even remember when warhurst said he thought webb was in shape to run 3:28 (or some other really ridiculously seeming time) and people thought he was joking and he stated he was dead serious, that webb was that talented. that is why they are once in a lifetime athletes because you only see one in your lifetime.
webb (if staying healthy) will have lifetime pr's of:
800m - 1:42.8
1500m - 3:27
mile - 3:45
5k - 12:47
10k - 27:34

Duh.
He sure as hell wasn't a 10ker either. Before, he raced mostly 1500 and 3000 with the occasional 5k. Therefore, shut the f*** up.
IT'S NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE!!! IT MUST BE WRONG!!!

Just because he focused on it does not mean he was better at it.

I wonder what Salazar would think a reasonable goal would be for Webb at 400m and 500m? 48/49 & 61/62? I've never heard of a miler running just 400's or 500's indoors. I've heard of 800m runners like Juantorena and some others doing a couple open 400's here and there, but not someone who is more of a 1500m/mile specialist.
Didn't Webb run 47 something in highschool? Might have been on a 4X4.
yo chris,
This whole 10k debate is unnecessary. The point is - Webb's 27:34 indicated plenty of endurance for an elite 1500m runner. Solinsky is very talented and his 26:59 is obviously superior to Webb's 27:34. But how many 1:43-low guys have also run 27:34 or better? Not many.
But what about EFFICIENCY AT SPEED? he used up a lot of energy with that form.
1:52 to 3:53 in less than eight weeks and still healthy despite all the tweaks with his weight, form, cross-training, etc..
Salazar is going to deliver on this one. 2012 could have a serious 1-2 punch with both of the AW's
How do you go about changing someone's biomechanics... I always thought a stride was a fairly natural thing that you can somewhat tweak but are mostly stuck with...?
Haven’t you ever consciously changed you stride / running form?
The human brain does have the ability to direct the movement of the limbs.

long 5 part series on changing biomechanics
I feel I have become more efficient the past couple of years, just trying not to clod on my heels so much.

Uh, did you read the 5 parts? In part 3 McMillan abandons trying to change her form, and in part 5, at the end it states that she had a stress reaction after stepping on a rock.

I agree..all of Solinsky's training was based on 1500/3k..last year was I believe 5k based and this year it was 10k training..which did help him a lot at the 5k..Chris even believes that 26'59 is much better than his 12'55..he did look like he was holding back..
I think he did run 7'36 before and even with a stronger base he still runs 7'36

And don't forget Andrew Wheating running 3'30.9 @ 1500m..I thought he would be tire after NCAA champs, but no..he is a freak of nature like Webb..I do want to see that 2012 champs
