Malmo,
I've been running pretty consistent 80-90 mile weeks for the last 10 weeks or so. I am racing Chicago and was planning on a 2.5 week taper... which means I have 3 weeks of serious training left.
I was thinking of making a bump in mileage these next 3 weeks to the 105-110 range before coming down for the taper (I have gotten as high as 95 for 1 week).
Is this a good idea? Will I just tire myself out or will I see any benefit from this? Basically, I do doubles 2-3 days a week, but would increase the mileage by doing them 5 days a week and making them a mile or so longer. I have never been a high mileage guy. Averaged 30-40 a week in hs, 50-60 a week in college, and over the last 10 years, have taken a total of 5 years completely off. Having said that, been running consistently for the last year, and have had 3 separate stretches in the last 12 months where I have had 3 months of averaging 80+.
I feel pretty good right now. My concern is that I will hit the wall since I haven't been logging big miles.
I'm 33, looking to run 6:00 pace. Just did a 15 miler at 5:50 pace and felt pretty good (not MP, but not a race either).
Thoughts?
