I never took rest days before and instead just ran for thirty minutes easy on what would be a 'rest day.' I received a lot of criticism from fellow runners for not taking one complete day off from running each week and so six months ago I listened to what other people suggested and did so but instead it has been a horrible experience.
The day I return to run after the rest day the morning run is so awful that I can barely run three miles continuously at say 9 minute pace. My heart rate is high and towards the end my muscles burn and cramp. I was much happier just running 3 or 4 miles on that day and still felt fresh the next day.
It's gotten to point where I cant handle the pain anymore because it feels like I'm coming back from injury everything is so out of whack. It almost feels like I've lost fitness even though I know it has only been 48 hours since my last run. Letsrun, do you have any suggestions why this is or is there anyone out there that likes to run everyday and why is it such an issue?
I run 60 miles a week and double 4x a week. Thanks and I'm not taking total rest days anymore and I tried XT to see if it helped but no.
