He yelled alot.
At anybody and everybody.
Yet, when I showed up early with my solo athlete one year for the decath, he stood around telling me stories of the old days and some things that happened at meets.
It was a nice moment.
He is who he is. But he did do alot for track in CT.
You guys do know this thread is 3 years old? Does your resentment really harbor that deep?

then why does he have such a short fuse and abusive behavior toward kids? You cant get to know a guy if you can't approach his tent without grenades going off. Does he take anger management classes?
Yes
I ran Cross Country in the early to mid 1970's at New Britain High School under Coach Black. Besides track and cross country Coach Black also coached weightlifting at the High School. I have NEVER seen him be physically or verbally abusive to anyone, whether it be students, parents faculty, or anyone else for that matter. Coach Black instilled a sense of pride in me and our team. If you have never met him or you never had the honor of being coached by him then you missed out on something very special. It's been 39 years since I have last seen him but I will always remember him and the positive influence he has had on me. It has been an honor and privilege to have known Coach Black and a greater honor to have been coached by him.

Since you ran for his team, you probably got biased treatment. Man, back in the late 90s in CT HS track & field, if you were from another high school and approached Mr. Black's tent at Wickham Park or at Trinity College track, all hell would break lose even though it was his fault because he would fvck up the results but still blast you when you approached his stupid tent. Dude had anger management issues which probably led to health problems I'm guessing. He needed to take a chill pill.

Yes he is. While he is very old school, he has done a great deal for track in CT. First he was an outstanding coach at New Britian and then he started his timing business. He started the hept/ decath/ hammer and steeple and made them state events. He got a great track facility built in New Britian and he was cutting edge of technology in timing. He is very ill right now and our prayers should be with him. He may be very loud and gruff, but he spent his entire life trying to help others.
