I may be mistaking, but I think the Tangent has some stability while the Ride is Neutral.
The tangent is light weight, light stability. The ride is normal weight, neutral. Tangent fits a little snugger.
Saucony Pro Grid Ride 2 is "neutral" medium-weight regular trainer that Anthony Famiglietti claims he uses because it can withstand his 100 mile weeks. I ordered it and ran with it for 200 miles. It has a pillowy cushiony feel which I like but then some dont like it and say it is too soft. Also, IMO they are not particularly durable because the cushioning bubble under the heal went "TSssss..." after 250 miles or so for me. I am 5'10" 130lbs and run mid-to-low 16s for 5k.
The Saucony Tangent is a completely different type of shoe. It's a performance stability shoe. I havent tried it because it's stability but it looks cool.
I've been training in the Ride 1 but I know the Ride 2 is a bit different so I was looking for a shoe as similar as possible to the Ride 1.
I've run the in the Ride shoes for many years now. I have a neutral foot strike. I'm 5'10" 140lbs and high 15s 5K. I also have a narrow foot which sauconys seem to fit well. I love the ride because it has good cushion and holds up well without too much bulk. I usually don't replace them until about 350mi.
I have also run all my marathons in the Tangent and love this shoe for racing anything over 5K. (run in the fastwitch for 5Ks) It may be advertised as stability, but most light weight trainers and races seriously lack support which I hate. This shoe has more support than most racers, but nothing near the "stability" of a typical stablity trainer. As a neutral runner, it works for me. I really consider it a neutral shoe. It also has much more heal cushion than a normal light weight trainer or racer which I liked for the Boston Marathon. I think it helps to be able to absorb a little more impact in longer races to keep the legs fresh.
