As someone who just went through the application process...
Of the D3 schools I applied to the acceptance rate was generally around 60%.
As far as state schools (IU, Ball state, ect) they were higher but not staggeringly so.
As far as running, there's no doubt I couldn't have run at top D1 schools, (my track PR's were 4:31, and 9:50). But I now find myself at a highly respected D3 school being pushed academically as well as athletically. My teammates and I understand academics are were our priorities lie and so does our coach, but that in no way lessens how hard we work.
What I'm getting at is that I'm sure NCAA athletes are working hard at ALL three levels. Stop trashing their schools, maybe they couldn't afford a D3 school, but are excelling under a scholarship in a D2 institution.
Who are you to judge them?
