I am about as conservative politically as you get, and I am absolutely mortified that so many of these anti (fill in the blank: global warming, evolution, etc.) wackos tend to identify as conservative. I just want to make it clear that not all conservatives are idiots, that in fact there are many intelligent conservatives who get drowned out by crazies from time to time. The same is of course true of the left.
No, the government DID NOT ACT in the Lehman case. That is just the point. The non-action was probably from bias. And the non-action was harmful. But it was not for an excess of government action that the collapse occurred. Fraud only goes so far. You had highly profitable markets with risk supposedly minimized by complex programs that nobody understood and you had unrestrained short-term profiteering by industry workers, among other causes.
