triathletes do seem to be gear junkies for sure.

I'm just curious why they would ban them? Its not like they're something only sponsored athletes can get- a nice pair only costs $40-$50. Which sounds like a lot, but it is very little compared to the cost of the other gear they're buying.

runners would rather find out the exact design of shoes the pros are wearing....and demand a pair for themselves....even if said shoes have pictures of said professional runner's children on them....
