Just wondering?
Just wondering?
He actually did very well at first. Ran something like 13:10 right after the move. Why we haven't heard much if anything from him this year I don't know.
because Alberto became his coach on the downside of his career
for those who apparently just found out there is professional distance running, Adam ran 13:11 fresh out of college, made an olympic and tore up the cross country scene for a while, then proceeded to be constantly injured for about a decade
he then switched to Alberto when he was nearing (or past) 30, revived his career, pred with a 13:10, made the finals of a WC, and got 6th at world cross country, before finally becoming too old to really be competitive at the level he once was...
good coaching by alberto, good move by goucher
Didn't he get pregnant? Some people don't come back from that as well as others.
He had some medical condition for a few years too that really effed him up. I guess his mom had it and when he ran himself into the ground at the 2000 Oly trials (right year?) it set it off. I remember reading an interview where he said he didn't have a single enjoyable run for something like 4 years straight. I don't know how or why he kept at it, but am glad he did. It's too bad his career has been marred with so many setbacks because he surely could have run sub 13:00 had he been healthy and done some good consistent training. A few years ago (2006?) when he ran 13:10, he did it on a stress fracture that had been bothering him for months. He was also 31 at the time. Things rarely go perfectly though, so it's kind of pointless talking about what COULD have been.

No decent training partners.

25% off through Labor Day.
you tell terrible jokes
if all you eat is a granola bar for lunch, it starts to catch up with you after a while....
Well, Adam's about 35 now, and ran very well for a lot of years (he's actually under-rated, he achieved a great deal) and doesn't he get injured like...all the time?
he could still be under 13 if he can pull it together.
the joke's in your hands, brother
Goucher achieved much over a 10-12 year career.
Collegiate record Indoor 3000
NCAA Cross Country Champ
Right out of college he scored a huge win over Bob Kennedy at US Nationals, ending Kennedy's string of complete dominance
Coming back from an injury at the US Trials in 2000 he won the 5000 in one of the guttiest, toughest wins I've ever watched.
After that he was sporadic an often injured, but still always near the top. He did run a 7:34 3000 (a top 3 or 4 U.S. performance. I don't know if this was with Salazar or not).
He also broke 28:00 in the 10,000. Plus some top ten performances at World Cross COuntry.
He's one of the best US runners in the last 20 years. Now he's old. It happens to most everyone. You only have really about 8 years at the highest levels. And most never improve after 26 years old if they were at the top right from high school like Goucher.
Some runners like Culpeppar can extend their career by moving up to the marathon but I'm not sure if Goucher is suited for that with his long track stride but we'll see.
And the dude will never suck. If he's going to suck he'll quit racing. And running 27:58 and getting 5th at the Olympic Trials isn't sucking is it?

Goucher ran 7:34 in 2001, when he was coached by Wetmore.
I remember watching him win NCAA cross country at Rim Rock in Arkansas. It was one helluva race. It came down to a duel between him and one other guy. I forget who the other guy was. Was it Boaz from Eastern Michigan? Whoever it was, it was a great run by the two of them.
No believe it or not, it was none other than Abdi he was dueling with. Boaz was Torres era. And he dominated Torres the year he won.
It seems like Alberto takes athletes who have years of long lydiard base running through different coaches and then he cashes in all the enduance chips and puts them in fast interval mode suitable for successful 5K to half marathons for couple years. They do really well for couple years and then end up like Goucher and Webb.
Webb doesn't do Lydiard style high mileage training and he hasn't run a single race under Salazar? Please explain "end up like"
Adam Goucher sucks under Alberto due to the 69 having Alberto on top
