I fully agree with you, except for the part about "nobody expects..." As this thread shows, plenty of people still have that traditional view of relationships (and thus will have the wife take the husband's name, along with all the other subtle cues of male dominance that go along with that worldview.) That's fine -- their decision, not mine.
Personally, I don't expect my fiancee to take my name. Truth be told, I'd prefer she didn't, though she hasn't made up her mind yet.
