I've had no such luck. Zero follow ups on applications. I thought I would at least get interviews.

22 and just got hired full-time at a big 4 accounting firm.
Working 15-20 hours per week right now at a local running store, but I've been told that once fall rolls around I'll get bumped up to around 25. I've been doing some networking with friends who go to school around my hometown, and I'll be trying to get interviews next week to do research at some decent schools nearby. If I can do 25 hours at the store, and 25 hours in the lab at minimum wage, that will be enough to get me through my first year of a masters program, at which point I can hopefully get a stipend. I will be living at home this year, and applying to grad schools this fall.
22 just graduated...job semi=related to degree, 27ish a year, w/e... kind crappy schedule but i can run my 90mpw and enter grad school for what i want to do (semi related to my work). its a good transition time. living @ home so ill try to pay off my loans in the next 2-3 years

That sucks. Sorry man.
Why do I have the feeling some of you are lying your asses off?
Its an anonymous message board, do you have to lie anonymously to feel better about yourselves?
Besides, you're all basically betting the recession won't get worse and reach 1970's levels, and I'm basically betting that it will.
In a world with few high paying jobs, what are your masters degrees going to be worth competing with PHD's for the few remaining jobs out there?
You better get used to a minimum wage job + temp. employment with your credentials, yes, even with an MA in your field the best you will be able to do is ever worsening Temp work with fewer benefits, more hours, and less pay.
In that environment, does it even pay off to have a graduate degree? or even a bachelor's degree? Why not get a few part time M/W jobs instead of paying all that money and going into debt.
Basically put, your young asses are owned by the man and its hilarious. You 20 somethings are about to get a whole new kind of schooling on how the world really works, woe unto you with your 'advanced' degrees. lmao...
I'm a 22 year old who graduated in 2008.
I was lucky to snag a teaching job about a month after I graduated. With coaching one season and my summer job (recreation program) I'm around 42k. I'm saving as much money as possible; living at home for a while, etc. That's annoying sometimes but it's conducive to starting to save.
I am very, very lucky. Had I graduated a year later there would be no jobs for me to even apply for. With budget cuts veteran teachers aren't retiring and districts are slashing jobs left and right.
I lost some sleep back in April when they were finalizing the budgets as I would have been the first to go in my department. The district decided to make cuts elsewhere. There were teachers with kids and families to support who haven't earned professional status yet who were let go. We had some very awkward faculty meetings.
I sure hope that you are joking, because this is an absurd statement. Minimum wage jobs? Minimum wage jobs with graduate degrees? Please.
I am 23, I graduated in 2007, I was making 60K last year. I am taking a leave from my job to pursue an advanced degree. I am still being paid as a contracted consultant for the company and I also work part-time right now. I will have a job when I return with a nice raise. I don't see how you can be so negative about the economy and about school in general. There are some degrees that "are not worth it" but that isn't for you or me to decide because sometimes WHAT you do is more important than HOW MUCH you are paid. It all depends what you want out of life and what you enjoy doing.
23, employed, over 60k/yr, making the company over 250k/yr.
Suck it up all you sacks. Pack some bags at a grocery store and stop stealing my tax money. Instead of paying for all these people who have college degrees in "english" and equally useless degrees who refuse to get a job "lower than them and their education" my taxes should go toward replacing our crumbling infrastructure.
19 (20 in August!) and I was lucky enough to secure two jobs for the summer that together add up to about 40 hours per week with weekends off. Once school starts, though, I'll be prayin' for a work-study gig.
All of you young bucks that the voted for B.O get used to having a hard time finding a good job. Reminds of my days of the Jimmy Carter era. I was a big fan of the democrats and actually did a lot of work for them in my youth. Luckily I wised up when I got into my 30's.
