His hamstring was injured in the prelims
Alan is a very talented runner and honestly could compete at a myriad of distances but even if he would have run today, I doubt it would have mattered or changed the outcome. He hasn't had a strong showing all spring and probably would have ran similar to how he has all year. I personally don't understand the range in mile performances he turns in...
Come on, we ALL know he'll be ready when it counts.

Does this mean Lamong is our best miler now?
Nope. Still Lagat.

Season is done. Possibly even career...
True.
Webb knew he was going to get smoked in the final.
He is just trying to save face a this point.
Stick a fork in him cause he is done internationally for sure...

This is an incredibly perfect oppurtunity for him to FINALLY regroup and begin training for the 5,000m and maybe even 10,000m. For god's sake we've seen what he can do without even training for it.
what did we see him do? run 1310 and 2734? Is that good? What is that 33 and 77 seconds off the world records of someone who is currently still running? What has he done in the mile? run as fast or faster than anyone currently running? (other than lagats conversion which blows it away). Yea you're right...we saw a 346 miler step up and run times that are extemely sub par in comparison to his mile time. Time to move up....yup...i mean he only went under 1:44 in the 800 without training for it, clearly his future is moving up. By your reasoning, he should move DOWN.
This is worth banging heads against a wall for hours.
Do you really think Alan Webb was AWESOME in 2007? The guy was taking the best stuff on the market, achieved his goal of breaking the US record in the mile and now there is simply no incentive for him to cheat and too much to lose.
Simply put, the Webb you see now IS what Alan Webb IS!!! He is an average to poor US national level runner.
ps. my mate from Scotland sitting next to me just wanted to add that in 2006 he got "smoked" in the Scottish 800m champs. So there you go.
If this was a Moroccan or Russian with the same kind of cataclysmic career meltdown all you smug dorks would be bleating on about drugs blah blah - and here it is all about his "hamstrings" or "coaching".
You guys are surely the dumbest race of people on earth.
pps - and dont think for a second that I dont know this will be "yanked" from the boards by your pro-American, freedom-of-speach-nazi moderators, but if at least a handful of you clowns read this, it will be worth the 4 and a half minutes it took me to write this.
Can any substantiate the rumour that I just made up; Alan Webb was Michael Jackson's biatch before Macaulay Culkin?

worth thinking about. you are definitely correct when you say that if he were moroccan or ethiopian or regina jacobs everyone would be losing their shit.
the thing that keeps me from believing that webb was on drugs was that he ran 3:53 in high school. those drugs are just too expensive (i think) for a high schooler, and as a coach it would really sadden me to think that these kinds of drugs have trickled down to the kids.
You just spent four and a half minutes to spell "speech" wrong.

uhh...which "guys" and "race" are you talking about?
pot calling the kettle on this one.
Not sure why you replied to me?
But drink another Guiness for me "mate!"

are you retarded why do people keep forgetting Lagat. oh yeah the reigning world champ who is auto qualified to worlds and the second fastest miler in history. By the way he is an American too moron.
Does Ulrey have a B standard to go as the third qualifier from the finals? I hope so because that kid's a hardass.

Dumbest race on earth? Many of us are "surely" of Scottish decent.
P.S. I doubt he ran using drugs in high school, and he ran a 3:53 mile.
P.P.S. Why did you even bother posting this?
p.p.p.s. Grab a beer and go relax your idiotic mind.
Everyone is forgetting that he is 5 to 10 pounds heavier than his 2007 AR self. By Daniels formulas, that could be up to 10 seconds difference. That would easily bring him back to elite times. I think the dude needs to lose some pounds and maybe get some blood work to make sure hes not anemic (though I imagine his quarter-pounders that he nails down are probably very rich in iron)
Quit trying to act like you know everything about alan and think he eats Mickey D's constantly> Why don't you all come to VA to take a vacation to see what he's really up to.. Come check out his place for any sign on drugs or donuts. I am beyond pissed....... . . . please don't post anything unless you have taken your anger out on someone else or forget that you know what Alan's plans are to drop the so called 10 pounds he put on since 2007. Last time I checked he was the same 146. peace out
The only disappointment I found was that I didn't get to watch Webb bring in the rear of the final, I was really looking forward to getting a picture of how far he would have ended up behind everyone else.

Lagat is a slow Kenyan at best
