Funny this thread gets bumped right before the Switch comes out. I bet a bunch of "grown ass men" are going to be playing zelda next weekend. Op is probably somewhere working a 40-60k a year job now, while being in the office 12-14 hours a day secretly wishing he had time for a run, maybe a couple hours of halo, anything but the hundreds of tps reports he fills out day after day. He's so responsible, he's not like those little babies and their zeldas and marios.
I have to agree with the OP, I have an admitted unnatural hated of gaming and gamers. It's just seems to be a huge waste of time. Grown men shirking real life sitting on a coach pretending like they are army men, or warriors, or athletes.
Why are grown men running? you don't earn anything and anything and its damaging your health if done this much. Basically a waste if time. Some are even adicted. Perhaps banning it would be best
Don't mock it until you try it. Way back in college I used to hate the kids who would stay inside & play video games or play tournaments, multi player etc.
Now I have more money & free time & have a PS4. The games today are phenomenal. They're not all first person shooter/blow everything up games. Lots of puzzles, thinking man games, strong story lines, determine your own outcome, & immersive games. My wife plays Skyrim, Sims, Banished etc on her computer so she has no problem with me gaming. It's actually a cheap form of entertainment for a night compared to how most other people our age who go out to a restaurant & then a bar & easily drop $100 a night.
2 things:
1. Video games of the last 10-plus years really are "great". Way better than they used to be. More immersive, much easier to devote lots of time to them.
2. Going off that, it's pretty easy to lose yourself in video games if real life is boring/lousy. During my teens-early twenties, there were periods when I would play video games a lot and times when I would barely play at all. In retrospect, the times when I played a lot directly correlated with times when life was going kinda crappy. On the other hand, when I was running/competing well, doing well in school, had a girlfriend, etc., I had little desire to play video games.
And crap like that
And shit like that
And poop like that
And explosive diarrhea like that
And excrement waste like that
And fecal matter like that

I honestly can't think of a more frivolous use of time than playing video games. There will always be a place in my heart for old school Zelda and shit like that but I could never justify pissing my life away on World of Warcraft and crap like that. Your minutes on this earth are ticking away and I just don't see how anyone can justify squander their existence in an imaginary fantasy world.
I think what you are imagining is a loser, someone who spend endless hours playing video games when there are more important things to do. When you are taking care of business in terms of your house, family and a career, etc.; who cares what you do in your spare time?

Two things I can't stand but should not bother me:
-people that spend hours wasting time playing video games
- people that watch professional wrestling (wrasslin')
Eh, I just spent 2 hours today watching a college basketball game. Another 2 hours watching the last half of the Daytona 500. Tonight I'll watch the Oscars for at least 2 hours.
At least with video games you have engage your brain more. Plus work on reaction time, coordination, reflexes etc.
Article in National Review today... wonder if Kevin Williamson reads LR?

Yeah, video games are great for reflexes and reactions and coordination and will come in handy in the event I become a jet pilot.
I knew two guys who failed out of college cause of their video game addictions. Crazy stuff.
I've had a lot of free time in the past couple months, so I've been playing my old N64 a lot. Just replayed Banjokazooie and Banjotooie. Ordered Super Mario 64 off Amazon and can't wait to play that.
I know a guy that ended up divorced because all he did was work, come home and stay up late playing WoW. This is a guy with 2 kids! He was virtually checked out of life.
Granted the video game was not the cause, but rather a symptom of something wrong, but still he used it as an avoidance to real life.
I'm in my 20's, play online video games on a computer, and have an alright 5k time. Is there any hope for me as a person? Is it too late for me to start hating myself and transition in the 800m?

KETTLE. POT. MEET.
Running has a measurable physical improvement on our body, but we could still die tomorrow from a car crash. What makes running a comforting delusion is that it makes us feel in control of life when we do it. Video games are the same delusion, my character's life is much easier to control than my real life so it can be addicting.
I find that non-gamers have a much stronger belief in their own ability to control the uncontrollable. They are delusional in a different way
I had an argument with someone once about video games and movies/Netflix. They claimed video games are the biggest waste of time.
I asked what is the difference between video games and binge watching movies/Netflix? They didn't have any answer but they still concluded movies and Netflix and perfectly acceptable to watch 16 hours a day while video games are not.
I presume people who don't play video games spend their time watching Netflix all day making fun of the people who play video games. They are the real losers.
Anybody who wastes time playing video games is a neckbeard basement dwelling beta cuck boi who will never get a gf or be successful in life. Video games are jerk circles full of scrawny spectrum NAFs. At least runners are scrawny for an athletic reason. Go outside and get a life, freakin losers
