what is this guy's background? it is implied he has ticked people off before.

wyner's a boss. let somebody celebrate with 60m to go. unsportsmanlike conduct is the entire dartmouth team boo-ing him after he wins.
What a joke! The only reason he gets DQ'd for that is because he's Jimmy. I personally wouldn't have done that but oh well. Love him or hate him he won the race fair and square. The Ivy league officials are a bunch of old farts that caved to crowd reaction. I assume that was mostly princeton fans booing him... stay classy PU.
He didn't taunt the runners in the race. He didn't impede anyone. The only thing he's guilty of is making an ass out of HIMSELF!
That all being said, he should know better. Over the years he's developed quite a target on his back and he can't give people cause to use it against him. Maag is an amazing runner and I'm sure he feels pretty bittersweet about winning like that.
If I was Jimmy I'd be getting myself psyched to win the 5k. I think he probably owes it to the team.
PS. If a crowd is booing you the only appropriate reaction is to bow. If he waited 30m to start celebrating would that be a dq? 20m? Maybe princeton should try booing more of our guys to get the officials to dq them. Maybe then they'd have a shot at winning the meet.
it wasn't just princeton...not by any means...everyone in the league hates him, and with good reason. good riddance.
Jimmy Wyner Interview
He was told right after this that he was officially DQd, by Rojo.

Fair enough, I'm not there.
what has wyner done? why does he have a target on his back?

I take it you didn't listen to the announcers in the video or read this thread so I'll summarize: It was the Dartmouth team doing the majority of the booing.
Obviously, I was a bit caught up in the moment in my first message. Thats what I get for not going to the meet and basing my opinions off updates from people.
I apologize to the Princeton fans if they had no part of it. Like I said, I am sure that Maag Isn't really interested in winning the race like that. With his 5k this year he's probably the class of the league in the distances right? I have nothing but respect for the guy.
As for Dartmouth being the ones to boo jimmy, thats just cute. That team always makes me laugh, not sure why they would hate jimmy the most though...
I wish I was in philly for all the drama! Like it or not, this is the stuff that makes Heps track so damn interesting.

Some years back he fouled a teammate so as to finish first in an indoor Heps race. Got a DQ for that, too. And has tended to make some boneheaded/unnecessary moves that resulted in contact with others.
He tends to be very emotional. He runs "rough" in a lot of races, but I thought he ran a smooth race this time. I'm probably biased because I'm the Big Red Fan, but I don't think he was taunting his competitors. I remember that Hine celebrated in the homestraight of his indoor 5000m win this year--no problem there.
Having seen the video, I agree with several others: Based on what I saw, he might deserve to get his @ss kicked, but the DQ is a tough call and was almost certainly influenced by the crowd response. Still, the officials *are* permitted to DQ for unsportsmanlike conduct, and I don't know what JW might have said in that last straight or immediately thereafter.
I'm glad that he's (apparently) recovered from his injury at indoor Heps, anyway.

is there anyone willing to answer this question?
Video of Darryl Oliver's wire-to-wire win in the Men's 800... what a race.
If Jimmy Wyner went to Hogwarts, he would be in Slytherin.
There is not a single doubt in my mind about this.
"You know" "Like" "But like" -- Interesting interview, seems like he's full of himself. Usain Bolt set 2 WR's -- you sir did not, which of course doesn't merit Bolt's actions, but you just ran a 3:48 in a conference meet -- Shake hands with your opponents, act like a professional and move on to race your 5k. Trust me, people will respect you alot more and the whole Ivy league might not "hate" you as much perhaps?
Also, Moriarity didn't win the 800 because he wore sunglasses.
DQ. the way he got on his knees and showed his butt to the finish line was unsportsmanlike. DQ. and he also smiled. DQ.
I didn't realize that the men's TJ was still underway. If all goes well there, that could nail it for the Red men.
The women, OTOH, have really got their hands full. Heckuva meet.
Princeton women up by 4 with all field events in and 3,000, 4x8, and 4x4 remaining.
History of shoving people in races (including his own teammates, as has been mentioned) and showboating (including the indoor heps 800m prelim and today's 1500m) and is just overall a very cocky and offputting guy.

Yep, Cornell goes 1-2-5 in the TJ. With 5,000 and deca and 4x4, CU over PU by 24.
