Jager went pro though, he'll be at meets but not competing at nationals.

Disagree. Last year in indoor he never finished worse than 2nd, and the only guys that beat him are graduated now. He beat Bobby Curtis in the DMR anchor leg and 3K at Nats. In outdoor he blew his fellow milers away at Conference, and at Nats was in good position likely to grab a top 5 spot before getting pushed by Jager/Acosta around the final turn(an accident, but it's part of racing).

He does tend to hang back, race more cautiously, etc. but we may see less of that as his fitness keeps improving. He was injured a lot and missed a lot of training and racing his first two years as a Hoya.

no...i was responding to the previous poster who asked what would happen if the big names coming out of high school from the last four years raced a 3k.

chelanga's run a 13:21 i believe so he definitely can fly. including the names you threw out there plus smyth, another guy who will be up there, here's what i got, though i doubt rupp will race and i think chelanga will stick to the 5k, but rolling with that:

I never understood the knock on Acosta. He's run 340/358/758(?)/1350 from scratch as a true soph. I wouldn't exactly call 758/1350 as sucking at an event over a mile, especially as I don't believe he's had more than one or two serious attempts at those distances.

I think it's because he IS really sick at the 1500/mile. I don't think anyone questions that his 3:40 and 3:58 times are nasty. It's that he can run that fast at the mile while simultaneously struggling to even break 14 in the 5k...what's he run 13:57?). meanwhile, bumbi, who essentially his exact equal in the 1500/mile with near-identical PR's has no trouble breaking 14 and has run 13:41. i think his best 3000 his like 8:03 or something. Bumbi ran an 8:01 the winter of his true freshman season...which is ridiculous.

Comparing Acosta's times with Bumbalough, they look pretty identical across the board at their respective ages.

Across the board, Bumbalough has better pr's... 3:40, 7:53, 13:41. Acosta has run 3:40, 7:57 (had to go to trackshark for that one), and 13:50 as a year younger. Bumbi looks poised for a great indoor/outdoor run, we'll see if Acosta can bounce back from injury.

I believe shadrack just used up his last season of eligibility. He's already run four in track at Corpus Christi.

i am excited to see how many guys go under 750 in the 3k this year.

last year no one did it. this year i hope to see 5 right around that mark.

Based on this years XC and last years track results, Auburn could have a really nice DMR this season. They have Felix Kiboiywo (3:42 1500, SEC 1500 champ), Julian Matthews (3:46 incomming freshman), JP Weertz (3:43 last year?), as well as Girma Mecheso and Elkana Kibet who could both probably run around 4:00 for the 1600 leg. I'm sure they will have a nice 400m leg too coming from a sprint school.

The BigEast 800m will be exciting this year to and can send some guys to the Big Dance in March

Chelanga ran 13:24 outdoor last year while redshirting and training much easier than this year.

i am excited to see how this season plays out.

i wonder who will step up from the freshman class. i know that

puskedra and derrick already did, can they bring it on the track?

fernandez has got more to prove since he dropped out with a mile to go.

i hope i beat all three of them
