Declared running for President:
Dee Jensen
Stephanie Hightower.
There was some talk out in Eugene that Katz was thinking about running. But I think he decided against it.

Are Barksdale and McCloud the biggest names she could get to endorse her? Maybe it's not a lock after all.
Who's katz?

It is sad but you are right.
i could be wrong (and have been in the past) but quote #1 was made by john chaplin who coached bernard lagat, samson kimombwa and henry rono to greatness at washington state.
on a side note, a track and field poster said bob bowman ( i dont know who he is) is also trying for the position against hightower.
Bob Bowman was out of the Bay Area and was heavily involved with the Pacific Association. He's been on the IAAF Race Walking committee. I believe he's moved up to Washington state. The other known person that's running for USATF president is Dee Jensen out of the Dakotas. I believe that her strength lies with the officials and youth committees.Stephanie IMHO has the Athletes Advisory bloc; that's hers to lose. The question becomes whether the athletes as a voting unit see through her BS or not. I'm guessing that Sandra Farmer Patrick and the PAA will have their annual athlete retreat in Mexico using the unaccounted $450k + funds that they got from Eugene 08, and I'm guessing that if this happens, Stephanie will be flown in at PAA expense so she can make a campaign speech to the athletes...there's something in this for SFP if Stephanie wins the presidency--SFP will be the women's track & field chair! My opinion only--if someone running for president reached out and asked some for some political and/or financial help from either a Mary Wittenberg or a Carey Pinkowski and they got behind that candidate, I think they might stand a chance against Hightower. With the way CEO Doug Logan's talking on his blog, if Hightower were to win, I guarantee you those two are going to clash; IMHO I believe that's why Craig Masback bailed when he did--Hightower & her cronies were going to go after Masback's job.I honestly don't have an idea what some of the field (throwing) constituents think of Hightower; I get the feeling the pole vault constituents don't think much of her, after the way she tried to ramrod the women's vault finals at the 2006 nationals in Indianapolis.

why would you post a picture of lil jon on this thread??
Dee Jensen, while not the best of all possible solutions, would be a good middle of the road, no boats rocking, president. Hightower would have the federation in constant upheaval and people running from the volunteer ranks. The future of the sport is truly in the hands of the athletes themselves and there's just not nearly enough that give a shit.
Many are now trying to stay calm on the deck of the Titanic. I luckily, got off in Bridghampton before we actually set sail for New York....

I hate her. Please tell me how to vote so I can vote for anybody but Hightower! She's an idiot and doesn't know or care anything about distance runners!
That's the problem. You don't get to vote. The associations send delegates to convention that do the voting. So unless you are involved in your association and are selected as a delegate you don't get to vote. Plus you have to pay to go to the convention, our association helps with the cost, but doesn't come near paying the whole amount, so expect some out of pocket cost.
They need to adopt a way of voting by sending out ballots to all members, like stockholders voting on board of directors of a corporation.
Dee Jensen has a pretty good shot because she'll get some pretty good support from the grassroots-oriented folks. Hightower has zero grassroots connections or experience. I doubt her home Association (Ohio) will even back her. Jensen has worked at both the elite and grassroots levels and was even the Dakotas Association President at some point.
By the way, if this becomes a three or four way race with Bob Bowman or anyone else also joining it, USATF does require a runoff if nobody gets over 50% in the first round. So Hightower cannot win by the other candidates dividing up the vote.
Hey all,
I have recommended the position to a very strong candidate (former USATF champion, a presence in the corporate world, + an attorney) who may now be interested in running against Stephanie Hightower. Can anyone who is interested in helping me get her nominated send me an email at cerose88 AT aol DOT com? I am not a current member of USATF, however she is willing to discuss particulars with you.
Thanks.

If you don't have enough interest to be a member, why do you care who is the president. That is like people complaining about the government and not voting.
I hope she does not get it....anyone but her is my VOTE!!
It is a corrupt, mismanaged organization and I have had no wish to contribute financially to its status quo. Consider it boycott. However in the interest of changing it, I joined it today and this candidate (if sufficiently interested and she is seriously considering it) will be nominated.
Race walking advocate Bob Bowman is now running for president of USATF, according to a letter he's written that's posted on trackandfieldnews.com.
If whatever man's candidate jumps in, this makes the presidential race more interesting. Maybe the voters in Reno may send a message that they're not taking crap from the good ol' boys network perpetuated by Chaplin, Hightower, Brooks J, et al.
