Technically. He ran over 808 meters(lane 2 in 3 curves, so he went through 800m under 1:44.

He actually ran 800m in 1:43 in the OT ...
Um, really?
one time i ran 4:01 mostly in lane 2, so that makes me sub-4 right?
not really, but it means that if you ran a race with that kind of fittness, in or one the outside of lane 1, you may have been.

Being that this thread is about the 800 Meters, YES, you were sub 4 for 800 meters. Not a bad walk in the park!
Borzakovskiy broke 1:43 once, back in 2001
After a few down years, the 800m is back. Should be a great race in Beijing.

What is funny is the inability to know when a sentence ends and another one starts (twice), when to use "have" instead of "got," or how to spell "experience" and "undefeated."
Also, what does "he won indöors and indifeated all the distance" mean?
And when did "indoors" become a word with an umlaut?
Unfortuantely for Borzakovskiy there are now a few guys who will give him a run- more than 7 years ago, and he will have a lot to contend with in addition to the rounds.
The odds are actually against him to win gold as he is a bit older now.
2001:
1. borzakovskiy 1:42.47
2. bucher 1:42.55
3. bucher 1:42.75
4. nduwimana 1:42.81
5. bucher 1:42.90
6. bungei 1:42.96
7. yiampoy 1:43.00
8. czapiewski 1:43.22
i think borza will be fine
the 800 is a weird event. Borzy has been doing this since 2000 at this level. Thats 10 years of hard training. We forget how frail the body can become with age- while Borzy has always been fast, how he handles the heats being Older, and the speed of the Sudanese/Morroccan/Cuban and other athletes is a tough question.
There are going to be many very fast men in that final that can run 1:42/1:43low who are much younger than Borzy. It will be tough for him to win, but a Medal is very possible.
If he's been doing this since 2000 that's 8 years, not 10. He just turned 27, which is not old.
i thought borza upto now had these limitations
- coudn't run a 1-off fast race of <1'43
- coudn't run rounds anymore & win
he's disproved the former, we'll just have to see about the latter...

No one would think he had those limitations if he were a magical third worlder. But being a white guy, he gets no respect from a lot of brainwashed folks. After all, no white guy can run fast. ; )
Borzo tends to run as fast as he has to. He miscalculates here and there, but he has a good international record to say the least. He's always in the hunt for a medal. His first 1:42 + was merely due to him having to run that fast to beat Bucher who was in his prime. Borzo looked to be a future sub 1:42 guy off that race, but as always, he's continued with the sit and kick stuff. He may win in Beijing or he might stay too far back, but it won't be the heats that take the wind out of his sails unless he runs poorly and doesn't qualify for the final.
Is there such a thing as "sit and kick" in the 800? I mean- you either have it in any given race or you don't. Every single guy is running as fast as they possibly can from the gun.
nothing to do with him being white - all to do with observation it had been ~7y since he went <1'43

Are you for real??? Let me guess, you ran the 200m and 400m in high school. Maybe you ran one 800m then too.
Many pros "sit and kick" even in the 200m. 400 meter specialist Jeremy Wariner can't make up his mind (sometimes runs the second 200m hard, sometimes runs the first 200m hardest). Nic Symmonds and Andrew Wheating are the latest American 800 meter runners (now Olympians) who employ a "sit and kick" tactic to their races.

If that was true the 800m record would be sub 1:30 since a couple of 800m guys have sub 45s speed. But in general the 800 is strategy is more "go out fast(50)/hang on(54)" or "Run pretty even splits(51.5/52.5)". But every now and then you get the tactical 800 where they go out in 54 and kick it in 52.
...as fast as they possibly can for 800 meters.
Was/is that so hard to understand?
They are not holding back with some kind of complicated strategy- they are running two 400s as equally paced as they can.

I would take a stab and say "JaJa's" first language is not English....
This is obviously an international forum. Where do you get the unmitigated gall to call someone on their spelling/grammar? Let's be a bit kinder to one another on here & quit feeding into the notion that we are all 'ugly' Americans
