Well I'm sure you know what you are talking about, so could you share your name, your times, and how much you've improved since using the drugs.
Thanks.
The idea that Kenyans and/or Ethiopians are given a special protection against drug positives is farfetched, in my opinion. Chepchumba, for example, tested positive and Lagat had his named dragged through the mad on the results of an "A" sample. Not too long ago it was unthinkable by the majority that a Kenyan would use drugs. That is no longer the case.
But to deny that there is fantastic talent and great drive in East Africa is to attribute way too much to drug use. There are many superb athletes in East Africa whose accomplishments are the result of hard work and talent, having nothing at all to do with drug use.
Renato has great command of coaching skills. He does work with Italians, and they perform very well. However, the Kenyans and other East Africans challenge the most at the world level. It's understandable why an outstanding coach would want to take the most talented and dedicated athletes and compete at the top.
Here's the list of Italian Athletes that I directly coached :
MASSIMO DE MEO (800 in 1:46.85 : doctors didn't permit him to run as he had MCV (volume of cells) 0.60, like sicks of "Mediterranean anaemia". He began training also for improving his anaerobic threshold using more long distances, and moved from 1:58 at 22 years to 1:46.85 at 27. Now, he has a MCV of 0.85-0.90, like normal people....)
MICHELE GAMBA (5000 in 13:23, 10000 in 28:01, HM in 61:07, Marathon in 2:11:52, at the moment National Ch. in HM and cross)
GIANNI CREPALDI (3000 SC in 8:27)
GIACOMO LEONE (Marathon in 2:07:52)
RACHID BERRADI (National Record Holder of HM in 1:00:20)
FABIO RINALDI (Italian Ch. of Marathon, 2:12:18)
NICOLA CIAVARELLA (Marathon in 2:11:23)
ROBERTO CROSIO (Marathon in 2:12:04) winner of World Cup as Team in 1995 in Athens (position n. 7)
MARCO GOZZANO (Marathon in 2:12:12) winner of World Cup as Team in 1995 (position n. 5)
DAVIDE MILESI (Marathon in 2:11:57) winner of World Cup as Team in 1995 (bronze medal)
MARIA CURATOLO (3000m in 8:53, 10000m in 32:04, Marathon in 2:30:14, bronze medal in WCH 15 km '87, 8^ in OG '88 in Marathon, silver medal in European Ch. '94 in Marathon)
ORNELLA FERRARA (Marathon in 2:28:01, bronze medal in World Championship '95)
MAURA VICECONTE (Italian Record Holder of 10000 / HM / Marathon with 31:05.57 / 2:23:47 / 1:09:19, bronze in European Ch. '98, winning marathons in Rome, Venice, Prague, Wien, 2nd in Los Angeles, ecc)
TIZIANA ALAGIA (Marathon in 2:27:54)
Of course, they are only the best, but I'm sure that I forget someone.
If you want to know something more, I can continue with the list of WHITE ATHLETES from other Countries :
RAKIYA QUETIER-MARAOUI (France, 10000m in 31'56", Marathon in 2:28:16)
SERGEY LEBID (Ukraina, European Ch. of Cross in 1999/2000/2002, 3000 in 7'35", 5000 in 13'10", silver in WCCCh '2002)
VASYL MATVIYCHUK (Ukraina, European Junior Ch. in 2001 in 5000/10000m)
OLEKSANDR KUZIN (Ukraina, Marathon in 2:11:06)
But, if you want yet to know something more about me, you must know that I coach also some "Master" 50 years old, because they are friends and need some advice, such as other italian runners of national level, but not too good.
A coach can only help an athlete in reaching what his potential permits, not to overtake it. Probably, otherwise, many coaches are not able to do this.
But nobody can change a donkey in a racing horse.
So, only having big talents you can reach top results.
But, who is used to work with the best athletes, is able to recognize talent, what the most part of people cannot do.
And you, of sure, are not able to distinguish a rhino from a gazelle, because your short-sighteness is total, your self-conceit to know what you don't know is maximum, such as your specific ignorance, and your credibility is null and void. Talking about you don't know, it's very easy to look a proper moron, pushed only by your big envy.
For an Olympic, World and European champion in the 10,000m, Cova's PB in the event is remarkably unremarkable.
It probably one of the weakest PB relative to the other times/distance in any other event for an OG, WC and EC winner.
27:37.59.
Amazing he achieved the results he did as no one was willing to take up the pace.
