Brie Felnagle has the best time in the country. She will receive the first at large spot. They look at everyone who finished in spots 6-12 in each region without regards to where they finished at the regional meet.

Did anyone see the race? I would assume something happened. Someone of her caliber could theoretically "take it easy" because of the 800 and still win. Plus, I'm sure she still wanted an auto spot.

Dude the regionals are a joke for a runner like her. Anyone remember a few years ago when Alistair and Tegenkamp both jogged the 5k at regionals? They still made nats easy, just like Brie will because of loopholes. This is a good example of why the regionals format is flawed.

I disagree. The combination of the rules for honest effort, no drop out, and then regionals coming on top of big league meets and then NCAAs means that you would push the athletes harder than necessary. Remember, this is a qualifying meet. They came up with the rules as a compromise. If they want to t\ye and change the rules, then everything is up for grabs, including going back to the old qualifying system.

This rule is necessary in part due to the disparity in the quality of the regions, as well and I would not mind the auto Qs from here being cut back one further and an additional four being taken nationwide from the placers in 5-12.

If you look at the PV results you will see that the #2 PVer in the country finished 13th and will not be going to NCAAs.

Repeat, this is qualifying, they want to have the best and the most representative NCAA finals meet with the best athletes, their objective is not to satisfy you.

She was a DNS in the 800 final. Maybe an injury?

it certainly didnt look like she was taking it easy. Of was tactical and when they rolled she had nothing. After the race she had both feet tilted outwards, not sure if blisters (doing it with both feet) or if she was just doing that cause it was scorching hot.

On an unrelated note that East 800 was scorching.

i am not sure how hold the Felix Kitur kid is but he is definitely a true freshmen. He is from Africa i think and is an absolute monster.

On the mens 1500 side, is that the end for Matt Debole, or can he still get in?

Debole, Emmanuel and Jager are top three on the performance list for the guys who didn't finish top 5 in the Regionals so they are in. They will probably take from 5 to 7 total, which should bring in Kyle Miller, John Richardson, among others. Sam Bair is likely toast.
