I tried to run several days after having a cast removed from my right foot. I had the cast on for 12 weeks and my foot was badly atrophied. So when I ran on it, I did permanent damage to the weakened foot. Now I have arthritis in every major joint in my foot and in my ankle. Running is out for life, and I will eventually have it amputated below the knee.
Don't fret - have them both done and throw some cheetahs on there! You'll be sub-47 in the 400 in no time and combine that with your distance background (assumed since you tried running immediately after having a cast on) you will have tons of potential for an 800 WR. There is always a silver lining...
That is tragic. Hope you are O.K. Take care of yourself-mind and body, and a new path will open up for you.

Wow!
I just got this cast off of my arm. I think I'm going to go enter an arm wrestling contest.
Sounds like a smart idea to me.

Yeah, but you're a f***ing distance runner so you would get beat in an arm wrestling contest by a 13 year old girl. I would reccomend against entering for that reason, not the cast thing.
I had planned to do 16 weeks rehab before running again.
But then I went to the Prefontaine Classic on May 28, and when I saw all those athletes running, I got anxious. Then I ate a shitload of food on the drive home and was anxious to burn calories too. So of course I was at the track the next day, running barefoot on the grass. Good job idiot. Crippled for life.
You probably have already done this but
get a second and a third opinion.
Also, maybe it wasn't actually the run. Maybe something was screwed up in the surgery or maybe damage from the original injury.
Wow. Are you serious? I didn't know it could be that bad. How long/fast did you try to go or what exactly happened? Do you do exercise now like lifting or rowing?
This thread was a few days ago. The guy took off a boot and went for 7 miles and expected the Achilles to be like new.

Nope, it was definitely the run. It was f***ing amazing what happend. I ran less than a mile that day and incurred multiple stress fractures, multiple severe muscle strains, and multiple tendonitis injuries in the affected foot. The next morning my whole foot was swollen like a baloon. The bones, muscles and tendons healed, but the cartilage didn't. So now I have a worthless arthritic foot.
What? Didn't you have pain during your run to experience the amount of damage to cause arthritis in all the major bones? I've never heard of arthritis causing an amputation. I hate calling troll, but I'll have to be the first.
