Know how you lose a toenail but then there is a cute new baby one behind it? well I just lost another on 2nd toe and there is nothing there, just a gaping hole. Do I need to keep it covered? will this be a problem? I met a guy at an ultra who had all his surgically removed and they looked like this one and its gross.
Not a major deal. You might want to keep a bandaid over it, just to keep dirt from getting in it and irritating it.
Boy, that's one of the few good things about getting crippled: having all ten toenails at the same time.

I just went to a podiatrist this week for possible treatment of toenail fungus. (At least, that's what it was diagnosed as.) He recommended removal of all ten of the nails. He said it would barely be noticeable, and would certainly be a lot better than discolored ones. Any other opinions on this?
wow same thing happened to me i had to get my big toe nail surgically removed and now theres no nail there it will take a few months to grow back definetly go to the podiatrist and he will take care of you better then you would. Shouldnt miss any running its an annoying thing because it takes so long to grow back.
well I was wondering about it getting infected, so I will keep a bandaid on it. But as I am a chick, I usually keep my feet as well pedicured as I can, as keeping the callouses and dead skin off is healthy from a running point of view, but also looks better, and as I run a ton I paint them all dark purple or black, so now there is one with just this gross looking gap in it. I guess I cant paint the skin? I dont care about looks that much really, just dont want to get an infection or something.
I had the common toenail fungus and put Vicks Vapor Rub on it every day and it eventually killed the fungus.

that's pretty damn drastic !
1st line treatment is a 3 - 6/12 of 1 lamisil tablet/day
i suggest you get a 2nd opinion...
