I've suspected for a long time that all the individuals who have run under 9.8 in the 100 were not clean. The odds just weren't in anyone's favor when you consider that of the 6 guys who had done it 3 had tested positive (Gatlin, Johnson, and Montgomery). Now it appears that Greene may have been as well. Leaving only the two Jamaican's Powell and Bolt as the only two clean sub 9.8 runners ever. I seriously have my doubts...
Anyway with the recent quotes by Pettigrew regarding how being on drugs made him able to break into the 43 range (although from the best of my ability I can't ever find a time better than 44.21 for him), I'm beginning to wonder if the same might hold true for the 400 and the 44 second barrier.
People who have broken the barrier include:
Johnson, Reynolds, Wariner, Watts, Everett, Evans (altitude), Lewis, Merrit, and Larry James (altitude).
Now again we know Reynolds tested postive and we have reason to believe recently that Watts and Lewis were dirty working with John Smith. Evans and James broke the barrier at altitude possibly a benefit but were also in the 68 Olympics where appearently everyone was loaded to the gills on drugs. Leaving possible clean non-altitude runners as Johnson, Wariner, Everett, and Merrit.
Johnson has his definite doubts, and if Johnson has doubts you have to group his little buddy in with him. Everett, wow so small and also so frail, could he have been clean? Merrit... gosh I don't know where to go with that one, but again the odds don't seem to be in his favor.
What do you all think?
