It really depends. There are a few kinds of full scholarships. One is full tuition, which only covers tuition expense. Then there are some which are tuition + housing. However, the ncaa does allow for some complete full scholarships in which books are paid for, and a stipend is given to you for the year. I haven't meant any runners with the complete full, but I know it exists. But I'm guessing you'd have to be one hell of runner to pull that one off.
Generally tuition, room and board for a full scholorship. Not very common at all for men with such few scholorships available(and many programs arent fully funded anyway). I think its far more common for girls to get full ride offers out of high school than boys(though still difficult).
I am a girl, but I ran D I and had a full ride...it was full tuition, fees, and books. When I was a freshman living in the dorm it also included room and board plus a small monthly stipend for when the cafeterias were closed. When I had my own apartment the room and board became just a monthly stipend.
Not sure about whether this was apart of the stipend or just a perk of being an athlete in general, but any prescriptions, doctor's bills, orthotics, etc... were picked up by the athletic dept. Also, I took 5 years for classes, but was done w/ eligibility after 4 and they give everyone the same scholarship for their 5th year even if you were done with eligibility. It switched over from an athletic scholarship to something else, but I still got everything...
Hope that helps.
There is only one kind of full scholarship and that is when ATHLETICS covers tuition, room, board, books and fees.
A tuition scholarship is not a full scholarship.
If you receive other aid from the institution for academics that reduces your athletic aid, you may still have everything paid for but it is still not a FULL scholarship from athletics.
There are NO stipends. You can receive meal per diem when you travel or the cafeteria is closed but it is not a stipend. It is part of board.
If you live off campus you can receive a monthly check equivalent to what on campus room and board would be.
There is only one kind of FULL although people do speak of other nonsense.
Thanks Title IX! Bunch of s***!
Awesome thanks for the info. I was told I'm going to be on full, but wasn't sure exactly what it entailed.
You must be amazing if you got a full ride. It's hard for a guy to get a 1/2 ride to run in college.
Yeah- a full ride for a guy, that is almost unheard of unless you are an amazing athlete. Or if you lucked up on a coach that uses his scholarships on one or two people and the rest walk on.
or.............. you are woman. Some schools will try to recruit anyone they can find to fill those spots.
i'm a woman

Not yet, girl, but soon.....
None of the youngsters here will get the reference, Neil, but your response made me chuckle.
Thanks for the funny.
I have a related question.
I got a 1/2 ride to a college based off of my SAT score.
I also got a full tuition scholarship to any school in SC because my dad got the purple heart while he was a resident of SC.
So, could I use both scholarships and use the extra money for whatever?
Or would I have to only accept one scholarship?
if you got a "half ride based on SAT" then you are smart enough to know that has nothing to do with athletics.
you should also be smart enough to know to contact that admission office of the school that offered you the "ride" and ask them.
or smart enough to know to contact the purple heart scholarship people to ask them.
Popar never said her/his scholarships had anything to do with athletics.
Popar will go on to college and future success. ...... will still be a prick and will have to live with himself until the end.

Urge Overkill improved the song in Pulp Fiction. You're right though, great reference.
ok how about this:
this is a running message board. unfortunately the information you have provided us is insufficient to answer any of the questions you have asked. perhaps you should contact people involved with those programs to answer your questions as opposed to asking for speculation from a group of strangers that have no interest in the outcome.

How did you get a half-scholarship based on SAT? Is that a school-based scholarship? Didn't you qaulify for the LIFE or Palmetto Scholarship from the state?
That would be in addition, plus your purple heart money.
Sounds like you should get a full scholarship when everything settles, and you haven't even mentioned athletic.
