You can add Abderrahim Goumri of Morocco (27:02.62 PB) to this list. He was just announced today.
Goumri is a nice addition but considering London was less than a month ago I doubt he's in peak fitness.
David is there a reason NY seems to exclude the top road Kenyans from its races? You're free to invite whoever you want but guys like Micah Kogo would clean up versus this field. I know NY does a good job of "scripting" its fields but with the marathon at least you are inviting the top guys. Not so here.
Until Goumri was invited, there was only 1 guy sub 28.
Sub 27 is where the top guys in the world are.
I guess having guy like Ritz come and get their clock cleaned doesn't play well to the media.
there were 2 sub 28 guys. check again
remember the name patrick makau he is young and regularly runs under an hour for the half marathon, he could go sub 207 when he makes his marathon debut planned for this fall, he also has ayounger brother who ran a low 28 track 10k as a 16 year old.
patrick makau has a half marathon best of 58.56 and he is 23 years old, and his younger brother nicholas has run 13.27 for 5k and 28.11 for 10k on the track and has a 28.10 for a road 10k run last year, nicholas is 17, both of them train in japan.

You're exactly right. And for my money, I'd rather see a "scripted" race because it's FAR more interesting. Ultimately, Healthy Kidney is a road-race, not a track meet, so what is the appeal in having the fastest field on paper, when the goal is racing -- not fast times?
Can Gomes win a top under-distance race in the city where he's had his greatest success? Can Richard Kiplagat return to his collegiate stomping grounds and breakthrough to beat a very strong field? And so on. These are talking points -- stories -- and they are what make any sport worth following.
scripted race? how do you figure? ritz is not a given to beat goumri, dos santos, or makau. even though he just ran a marathon last month i would think goumri would be the favorite, considering he has a 5k best of 12.50, 10k of 27.02 and a 205.30 marathon last month, he is not some runner with a name who used to be good, i would think ritz would probably get 2nd 3rd or 4th if he had run.
