I can't imagine how he could be injured so early in the season.

This might be a factor:
"On March 30, German led Team USA's sixth place finish at the IAAF World Cross Country Junior Championships in Edinburgh, Scotland with his 25th place (24:15 for 8k)."
Sounds like it's been a fairly prolonged season, actually.
Whoops, now I realize your post was probably sarcasm. Well, you nailed Mr. Clueless again. Well played.
He might be thinking of the 4:21/1:58/8:53/53r two weeks before that...

yeah that quadruple was probably a pretty stupid decision by his coach. Im calling its a hamstring injury due to the 4x4 as I heard he was slightly injured going in to world cross.
Why would any HS coach have a kid run 4 hard events in a meet? Heck, why would any coach have a kid run 4 hard events in a week?
4:21 is not hard for Fernandez(he ran 4:06 for the win on a relay a week or 2 prior). 1:58 is sort of hard, but he can probably run 1:54-1:55, so it's not all out. The 400 probably was decently hard, but it is only a 400 after all. Not the wisest quadruple, but stupid to be bringing it up a month after it happened when he ran an 8K race in Scotland without problems.
Combine all that stuff together with the training he was doing for waorlds and guess what? You are injured.
Do you actually think when an injury occurs it is because of one single workout or race?
