b.s....car went past in the background, camera angle makes it look like he jumping it.
I don't think it is a camera/angle trick. Look at the shadow from the lamp post. He is standing on it...and the car drives right over it...if you pause the video when he is at this highest point, he is clearly jumping much higher than the car..and besides, that car is so low, that it wouldn't be that difficult for anyone with a vertical leap good enough to be in the nba.
Yeah, because Kobe, the Lakers, and all his other sponsors don't mind taking the chance of something going wrong with a stunt like that at all.
I read that they did four takes of that scene and Kobe made it over all but one time.

Nice. My dad went to high school with a ridiculous high jumper who made money by parking his car and betting people that he could jump over it from one side to the other (ie the opposite direction of the Kobe video). Of course no one thought he could do it and his audience pretty much figured that they were about to make an easy dollar or two just for watching some cocky kid embarrass, and possibly injure himself. That kid made a hell of a lot of money off of that one trick. Seeing the hurdle video reminded me of that.
ok, its been said already, but it has to be fake! There is no way the Lakers or Nike or any other of his sponsors to allow this.
Come on, teams write clauses in athletes contracts disallowing them to ride motorcycles, but they will let them try to jump over a moving vehicle for an internet commercial!?!?!
I might be mistaken but the car was traveling toward him correct? That jump has been down countless times by stuntmen. You have to 1) have a high vertical leap, 2) have strong hip flexors 3) have flexible hamstrings and 4) hope the car is going fast enough to get under you.
I've seen a video on crossfit.com of a guy doing a box jump onto a 60 inch platform. You just have to be able to raise your legs up near your chest after doing a vertical jump.
Let's say Kobe has a 40 inch vertical jump. To jump up 60 in he would only have to tuck his feet up 20 inches, less than 2 feet. The problem is timing. I'm sure this is something his dumb ass has been trying to do or doing since high school.
The difficult trick someone already mentioned....long jumping a freaking car while it is parked.
Alan
I also heard that Kobe was spotted an hour prior to the video shoot being rolled up and down the parking deck in a wheelbarrow doing dumbell presses. He claimed it helped build his hip flexor stability thus the ability to lift his feet another 20 inches to his chest at the peak of his vertical jump.
It could have ended up like this!
That's fake. There's no way a guy like Kobe would ever do something like that. I bet Kobe could do it, but he didn't there.
Here's a video of a guy doing it, but it's a Ferrari.
Is it the shoes?
PS -- I hate you.
This video could be fake, but rest assured that Kobe Bryant COULD jump a car like that if he wanted to. Anyone with a verticle leap of 40+ inches could do it, and I'm sure Kobe's vert is 40+.
It's fake. The camera is stationary, so all you would have to do is simply record the car driving by. Then record Kobe jumping. Then simply merge the videos since everything is the same in each except Kobe and the car.
If you pause the video right when he starts to jump and you see the car(35seconds) you can see the car is angled away from kobe. FAKE!!
so dumb.
Yes it's fake, thanks for helping this douche promote his shoes. The man's worth hundreds of millions of dollars, he's not going to risk one cent of that for a stupid video.
Crazy as it might sound, you can see Kobe's shadow on the car, and you can see that the car passed where he was standing by the shadow of the lamp. Yeah, it was angled away until he was in the air, but you can see that it turns in toward him. So he jumped it, but the car could have avoided him if things didn't go right.
