Anyone ever had PF and trained through to the point where the fascia has actually torn?

I've never had a problem with PF, but I did partially tear my plantar fascia. This happened back in October in the middle of a race, and I'm just now in my 2nd week back from running since then. It is very painful and at times can still hurt like hell. Doc says that the pain might not go away for a long while, but the fact that I've never had a problem with PF before should help the healing.
I have been out for over 4 months with it. I had shock wave therapy and am hoping that it will work.
there is a whole thread on plantar fasciitis under the 'injuries' section of this website. I had bad pf problems and even tore one, once sprinting at the end of a workout.
1) get a cortisone shot
2) get to a sports podiatrist who has successfully treated pf. get 'soft orthotics' which you will wear for all running from now on. Down the road, you will be fine.

wrong: if you do any kind of serious training or intervals, it will come back at some time, unless you address the causes.
I had a cortisone shot a truly believe that it contributed to the tear. I declined a second one. I have tried everything else.
How long before you got back to running after your tear?

a month or so; but you need to get orthotics.
I have had them for 7 months. I wear them in all shoes.
Are you pain free now?
What did the torn PF feel like? I have had a sore heal for months now, still training on it though sore at times. But has not been getting any worse (not getting better either) I did take 2weeks off in December but it did not get any better. Seriously debating a cortizone shot.
It can take months to heal. You should not be training on it at all. I would lay off completely for several months, after which I would start back gently, maybe 20 mins. of running three times a week. You should probably tape the sole of your foot in strips that are perpendicular to the length of your foot and seal those edges with strips parallel to the length of your foot. That will reduce the jarring on your plantar fascia.
you can take off days, weeks or months. I did it all and it didn't help. Unless you address the problem, not just the symptoms, then it will come back. I took off 3 months and it didn't get any better. I got a cortisone shot in both arches, rested another 7 days and the pain was gone. It came back eventually, until I finally found a good podiatrist who made me soft, custom orthotics. It still took time after that, for small adjustments to the orhtotics, etc. but within a year I was pain free, running 100 mile weeks again, doing intervals and was fine from then on. (and even ran a sub 2:30 marathon in my late 20s). My pf problems started my freshman year in track and it took 3 years to go thru all of what I just described.
Plantar fasciitis was not really painful at all. I have trained through that for about a year or more. What started to hurt was when my heel felt like someone was jabbing a hot knife in it after runs. It got to the point where it was killing me to stand up on it for any length of time. Eventually it started to hurt while I was running; especially during faster paced runs. I could feel things tearing as I ran. I walked with a limp for about 3 months.
I really think the cortisone shot may have contributed to all of this.
Let me clarify what I just posted a little...
The normal PF pain (getting up in the morning)is what I did not really consider painful. That is why I continued to train through it. Once I got the pain in my heel, it was a constant pain that progressed to an excrutiating throbbing that never stopped. I was training for a marathon and did a 20 miler and a 10 mile tempo with it torn. The pain was unbelievable! I stopped completely for over 4 months and just did a 2 mile run yesterday. It truly felt like a hot knife in my heel. I was virtually crippled.
I just finished an 80mile week with 15mile long run, 5 x mile workout and 30min tempo mixed in there. My heel it's anyworse than before. Still a dull sore spot at the insertion of the fascia. Which has been there for 13 weeks. I do tape my foot(www.nismat.org/traincor/pl_fasciitis.html )for long runs and the faster stuff. Doing Active Release Therapy 2 times a week, icing and ibuprohen. Oh and I also sleep with "The Sock" on, I find it much easier in the morning. As long as I can manage it I will run, I tried taking time off didn't help at all. Taking 6 months off is not an option right now.
I think since it hasn't been getting any worse that maybe the cortisone will do the trick.
I had a partial thickness tear of the PF resulting from continued hard running on what started as plantar fasciitis. Worst injury of my athletic life! I missed 8 months and, thankfully, am now back running (8 weeks back now). I am still only up to 30 m/week but I'm so happy to be running again, I'm willing to build up slowly. Best help for me was my podiatrist finally putting me in a non weightbearing cast and my Chiro helping resolve some alignment issues. It still hurts every morning but if it doesn't get any worse I can tolerate this! Good luck!
I appreciate the feed back. I was in a walking cast for 3 weeks and then a boot for 3 more. This is absolutely the worst athletic injury I have ever had. I have tried evrything except surgery (which I don't want) and active release therapy.
What exactly is ART? Is it expensive? Effective?
Hi Bobby
Any update on the injury?
I have torn my plantar over 3 months ago and it doesn't seem to be improving.
Any advice would be great?
Thanks
Hi anyone,
Any updates on how these injuries healed? Supersonic16? I ruptured my PF in late November (2018) and have not ran more than 50 miles total since because of how painful it was and still is. Any advice?
