How much does stress and unhappiness affect running performance? I've been running like shit for the past year and have also been the most unhappy and stressed out I've ever been the past year, mostly due to non-running factors. Is the stress and unhappiness causing my running to suck?
In all likelihood it wouldn't be helping your running at all. Moods and emotions absolutely do have an effect on energy levels and motivation for most people.

Yes, my running has definitely been a factor, but there's a lot of other things too.

It depends on the person. It's one of the reasons that I do my hardest workouts/runs on the weekend. Doing a hard workout after work just doesn't work for me. I can get out there run for a long time, but can't focus.I also don't run well when I am upset. Running does decrease stress somewhat, but I prefer easy running at these times.
Get yourself happy. Just have fun with running and it will get better.
