Got shut out of seeing No Country For Old Men (sold out) and didn't feel like killing an hour until the next showtime of any other movie I wanted to see (Atonement, Juno, Kite Runner, Charlie Wilson's War, Water Horse) so I picked AVP:R, which I was curious about for thge sake of something that's just fun but certainly wasn't at the top of my list. Okay, so no surprise that this one won't get any nominations from the Academy. Despite the most basic and simple of plots it was pretty good. Awkward intro/set-up, decent special effects, good action, and lots of gore and carnage, especially human. Had a nice jab at the government slipped in there and a really puzzling ending, unless they were setting up for another sequel. I never saw the original AVP, so I don't really know what to compare it to, but everyone I've spoken with about it said it was an absolute dog so I'm guessing the sequel has to be better than the original, though that might be no great feat.
In the trailers there was a slightly different one for Cloverfield, which should make a megaton of money based on how cleverly they're promoting it unless it gets two stars or fewer from the critics. Hellboy 2 looks like a good one. Jumper looks good, too, despite the inclusion of that whore Sam Jackson. Still not sure about One Missed Call.
