I'll be in Burnsville on Monday the 31st and am wondering if there are any indoor tracks within reasonable driving distance that'll be open for an AM workout.

Supposedly the Eagan community center has an "indoor track" that you can run on for a couple of bucks. I believe it's 11 laps to the mile.
If you are still around on the 1st then check this out.

Hey Chris, could we get into the U of M track??? I guess that is pretty far away. Maybe Wed and Fri will have to be the workout days???
I'll e-mail Ryan Ford to see what he says about getting into the U's track.
The Carleton College track in Northfield will likely be open in the morning. It's not hard to find or get to, probably 25-30 minutes from Burnsville.
neither hagg nor zatopek needed an indoor track. toughen up kid. must not be a minnesota native with that kind of wimp attitude. certainly not scandinavian.
Anyone know if the river road trail is clear of snow? I hear its a good place to get a long pace run in, which I need to do tomorrow. And if so, does it have mile markers? Any help would be great, Thanks.
Sean
I'll be outside for the afternoon run that day. I'd just like to get a little turnover work done in the AM, and being tougher won't give my shoes better traction on the ice.
South from Plymouth Ave the river road is plowed on both sides. It's a mixed bag, clear in some places (notably up the half-mile hill from I-94 to 24th St, if you're looking to do hill repeats!), good packed snow in others, and then some areas where it's loose, broken snow and the traction is s*itty.
The snow has mostly obscured Patrick Russell's accurate mile markers that run from Minnehaha Park to the Franklin bridge, and then south to Cleveland Ave on the east side.
On the west (Minneapolis) side there are some MPRB mile markers but they can be significantly off.
The Midtown greenway often has better traction than the river roads. The distance markers along here are not terribly accurate either. From Lake Calhoun Parkway to Highway 55 is 5.1km.
The long and the short of it is that between the traction and the inaccurate/obscured mile markers I'd find it kinda frustrating doing a timed workout on MSP river roads this week. Others may be more sanguine about these matters.
You should have gone in 2007 for the ZOOM Yah Yah Indoor Marathon - all on a track.
no need for turnover work right now. also, no need to worry about traction when you are running in knee deep snow either. toughen up, and try not to spread it around that you are from minnesota while you are doing so.
Hey Dipshit, go take a long run off of a short plank. I guarantee that the runner starting this thread knows a shitload more about running and training methods than you ever will. Also, he is faster than you. Plus, he has run in way worse weather conditions (hot and cold) than you probably ever have or will.
Not to mention, you have no idea on his running goals and ambitions. He could be running a pretty important race in Jan or Feb and need to do some workouts in good conditions. You do not even know what workouts he wants to do, possibly he is trying to do a tempo run or long intervals without cold, ice and snow. I like letsrun, but dipshits like you make posting on this site a pain in the ass. If you have no real information on a good indoor track in or around Burnsville, MN, then don't post on this thread.
I ran River Road yesterday noonish from Franklin south on the Minneapolis side and it was OK for my slow recovery run (I wore shoes with screws in the soles), but there were very few bare spots to get any traction if you wanted to go harder. The St. Paul side is usually better cleared.
no reason to get all huffy. you're liable to ruin the minnesota nice persona for everyone. you might start thinking about getting thicker skin too. i can also promise you that your hero doesn't know more about running/track and field, etc. that is DEFINETLY the wrong assumption to make. i would bet quite a hunk of money that your pb's are far inferior as well. if that's not the case, then i stand corrected. buck up at the very least, camper.
River Road is clear; however, the paved trails may not be. I ran there yesterday and found them to be lightly plowed and not clear. Just stick to the road and you'll be fine. If you wanna go for a long run just hit up RNF and I am sure someone will want to go.
As for indoor tracks, the university is open from 12-1.30. Anyone can run on it, but you may have to run the opposite direction.
I would go to the HHH Metrodome. Run in the end zones, the Vikings seldom use those.
Is that you Scott?

Are Asics, Saucony, and New Balance envious of Brooks, Hoka ,and On?
