Well, it's December, and not much major should happen between now and New Year's Day, methinks. So, lets look back on the year that was, shall we?
What, in your opinion, was the most significant development in Athletics in 2007?
This could involve a particular runner, or a group of runners, or a particular event, or a drug headline / bust / testing procedure, or an announcement about policy or whatever...Go nuts! Converse!
I thought long and hard about this. I thought about the whole depressing Marion thing, and I thought about Geb's nailing of the WR in Berlin, and Hall, (and of course Ryan Shay, which in the Grand Scheme, is bigger than any of this - a different plain if you will), and I thought about wejo vs rojo in that 400m....
But you know, I gotta say, the one thing that really knocks me out, above all others this year, was Webb and....drumroll please....Dudes....THAT 800m! Not the Mile AR, not the other big 1500m / Mile wins, no no.
I still cannot watch that 800m video without almost soiling myself. "Even the DVD hole might look slightly attractive if they put that on a disc" said a very, very crude person that I know.
His repertoire was greatly expanded after that one. Oh we knew he could do a fine 5k, 10k even, and we saw him kick well over the last part of a 1500m/Mile. But that 800m was massive. A missing link. A gaping hole filled admirably and completely. He can do it all. He has everything that it takes, physically.
But the Olympics Gold requires more than that, doesn't it?
Anyway, you go!
