So towards the end of last years indoor season, i started to experience heavy inflammation of the muscles on the outside of the shin. It hurt when I flexed the foot, hurt worse going up hills, and got continuously worse as I went on,eventually slowing me to a trot. When I stopped running, the pain went away pretty quickly. It was diagnosed as shin splints,I got custom orthotics, and I took most of the outdoor season resting. The rest didn't seem to help at all, and when I came back for summer training I experienced the same symptoms. I continued training with on and off problems for most of the summer until I got a stress fracture which kept me out all xc season. I am now trying to come back for this indoor season, and I'm beginning to experience the same symptoms.Everyone seems to assume that any shin pain at all is shin splints, but I am almost 100% sure that this is compartment syndrome. I was wondering what everyone else thinks? Does anyone have any experience or knowledge with/about compartment syndrome?
