Okay, so I had been battling knee and calf problems for almost a year and a half (completely shut it down for 4 months). When I started back, I ran every other day for a few weeks. I liked how fresh I felt on each run. I decided to give the 4 day a week thing a try for a while. I started doing straight tempo and threshold runs without any "easy" mileage accumulating about 30-40 miles per week. My times on my personal benchmark courses have dropped considerably over the last couple of months. They are now down to where I was about 4 years ago when I was doing about 60 mile weeks on 6 days a week. I also feel amazing on each run instead of the ol' soreness that used to come with higher mileage.
I am not training for anything longer than a 10k.
Has any one else tried this approach?
How long can I continue to see improvement before I hit a wall?
