I really don't know what his debut time will be, but it's pretty clear that Wanjiru is the future of distance running.
Geb's record is great. Wanjiru will shatter it, sooner or later.

wanjiru himself said in an article he JUST wanted to win and break the 20651 fukuoka course record, so he can save himself for the london marathon which is the kenyan olympic selection. confident guy JUST wants a 206 for his first marathon.

I'm not trolling and I think you might be right. Did anyone else notice the line in the IAAF article about Wanjiru that he has only done one month of marathon-specific training and that he bonked on one of his two 40K runs? Of course, that might just be pre-race sand-bagging.
http://www.iaaf.org/OLY08/news/Kind=2/newsId=42543.htmlHe will go after Rutto's 2:05:50 debut WR but fall just short. I don't buy the CR goal crap. That seems like a pointless goal (unless there's extra money for that).

I wouldn't be too surprised if the marathon rears up and gives him one of its patented smack downs. I predict 2:08:15 and he'll be a little shell shocked at the end of it.

I don't think I agree. Isn't his training of the ultra-high mileage Japanese variety?
Although the patented smack down is well known for a reason, it most often happens to people who are moving up without being fully prepared, physically and/or mentally. But from what I understand, Wanjiru's training and mindset have been all marathon, all the time...
I will hope for 2:05:hi but bet on 2:06:lo
Well said, Predictorating!
