Now I'm jealous, my teammate ran 9:04 or 9:08 qualified for state but decided to watch from the stands because Hulst & the other guys woould be a half lap ahead. He was
not even in the top ten qualifying times that year. I talked to him later & he couldn't care less about running sub 9, he wanted to see Hulst break the record, we were all expecting a sub 8:40 but there were terrible winds that day so it didn't happen :(((
