most d2 schools have athletics and academics as well....academics are sort of a pre req of having a university.
Colorado School of Mines has an excellent engineering and economics departments
If you are looking to be a teacher, Emporia State in Kansas is the top Teacher's School in Division II. I also believe top 4 in any division.

Um, no. There are many schools in the Northeast which have teacher education programs that are MUCH better than emporia...The Ivies all have great programs, the top NYS state schools have some of the very top teacher education programs in the nation, the schools in Boston are unbelieveable

UCSD is the top DII school in terms of overall academics.

agreed. one of the better running/academic combos in d2, especially for environmental science or teaching.
Stonehill College
You get the best of both academics and athletics at Pittsbug State U., in Kansas. (2 hours south of K.C.)
Dallas Baptist University
WWU in Bellingham. Great academics, awesome trails and a great young and upcomming program.
WWU is a good school. Great trails. And if you go there... you should be able to spell "up-and-coming" program.

This is true, and they have some top tier graduate programs (10th in econ according to US News).
