Firstly, I'm a high school runner coming back from an injury last year after running 5:30 for the mile. I'm ready to start base mileage now, but after buying a HR monitor for the first time I realized that my pace drops to a very slow 10:00 min/mile when I try to maintain a 75% max HR. I find that I cannot even run at the bottom of the range, which is 65% MHR.
My max heart rate is recently tested on the treadmill, and it seems to be pretty consistent with the formula.
One method to determine easy pace is to breate only through your nose, I've heard; when you can no longer breate only through your nose, you have reached your easy pace. Can anyone confirm that this is a good method?
Thanks
