Exactly.
Exactly.
Getting HS kids to do more than others to win is called being a great motivator and Newton has been doing it over 30 years. York doesn't do anything more than other top programs do. If others could do it they would, but they can't/don't. How is newton being irresponsible?
because these kids are running too hard for their bodies, read up up on physiology and child development. Why didn't Talbot run? Because he was hurt, why was he hurt?
Why is it that these kids don't live up to their potential in college?
Don't give me the Marcus story, he was only there one year.
I think the fact that placing second in a state meet is somehow being twisted into a bad thing....just goes to show how great the program is at York HS.
I think that you are confused on what potential really is. Some runners mature quicker than other runners. Running 9 minutes for 2 miles in HS doesn't automatically bestow 13 minute 5k potential.A lot of these guys were made into runners and some of them reach their potential quicker than others.Your mentality is why there was such a dearth of distance runners in the 90's. The renaissance is because people are running again as opposed to worrying about "child development".

uva, stanford, or illinios
Look at Ryan Hall just did! Ryan Hall was all about starting to train hard when he was young . He was doing 15-16 mile runs in at a very young age, training miles. Read any interview he has done, he talks about running at a young age helping reach the level that he is at.
I was running close to 100 mile weeks in high school at York and didn't improve until I reached college. Some runners can handle it, others can't. The thing was, I thought every other school was doing the same thing so I never really thought about it. Unfortunately injuries are part of this sport and I was fortunate enough to be able handle the mileage and now I can handle 120-130 mpw.
York has had a tremendous flow of alumni run in college and do perfectly well. But this has been beat into the ground.
nah waiter, chamelion isn't me, but he is right.
But since you want to be a dick about it...where's the link to YOUR workout on flotrack?
Derrick ran 9 seconds faster than Don Sage his senior year at Detweiler. Wow. Faster than Pfeifer or Withrow too.
Look at where Derrick's 13:52 plugs into the all-time list and you'll understand what all the shouting is about. He bested the times of some VERY notable names.
Whatever happened to the Dettmans and McNamara?
The Dettman's are at Oregon, they redshirted their freshmen years and ran Cross this year. McNamera is in Michigan running there. He is been up and down, but doing much better. The Dettman's have been running solid on a strong team.
