You could stay at the Hilton Garden Inn...it's right off the West Shore Expressway in Staten Island about a 10-15 minute cab ride from the Verrazano bridge...there is also probably a city bus that heads to the bridge from there (although I can't think of one and it will probably take anywhere from 30-40 minutes to get to the start) or the hotel might even have a shuttle bus that goes to the marathon start. There another big chain hotel that opened right next door to the Hilton as well although I can't remember the name. There' also the Staten Island hotel which is right off the Staten Island Expressway about 5-10 minutes from the bridge by car. Hope that helps!!
Also, I forgot to mention...Staten Island doesn't have yellow cabs, you have to call a car service and they'll pick you up at a specified time. The hotel should have a car service listing.
