Anyone ever been or lived here? I'm thinking about going to western illinois university. If anybody had any insight on this town it is greatly appreciated.

the team is called the leathernecks.
From their website:
"What Students Should Know
Your experiences at Western will be among the most rewarding and memorable times of your life."
What else could you need to know?
probably the worst college town and school in IL
nothing to do, cornfields, bad academics
be carefull....every year some college kid dies at the lake!.....very dangerest spot where the kids party!
Man, there is nothing out there. It's in the middle of nowhere...literally.
I know they are hosting the summit league conference meet this weekend.
Grew up pretty close to Macomb, and it's a crappy place. Western is a little better than the town, but the academic culture is nothing to be excited about. Unless they're giving you some serious cash, I'd avoid it.
I went to school there and ran on the team for three years. Macomb is the worst college town in Illinois hands down out of the major state universities. There is NOTHING to do there, and the university has very few interesting speakers or performances come to the school. The school is average. I had friends at all the directional schools (north, south, east and west) and I would say all four are comparible when it comes to the education they provide. Obviously some programs at the school are better than others. Running is ok. I honestly enjoyed running on country roads. The cross country course is pretty good and there are a few state parks close by (20 minutes or so) that are fun to run at. It's not a school I would recommend, but many people really love it there, especially if you are into drinking heavily and going home on the weekends.
never been there, but I had a temporary secretary this summer who goes there. She complained a lot about the school. Out in the middle of nowhere, nothing to do. She struggled to come up with a good explanation on why she chose to go there, other than the fact that it is cheap. She lived in the dorms and said it was so loud you couldn't get anything done. She now lives off campus with her twin sister and boyfriend.
Western Illinois' coach is Matt Morris who was a coach at the 2001 World Championships. He ran at Montana and coached David Morris (2:09 at Chicago and former American record holder in the marathon). Their team has been getting a lot better the last three years since he started coaching and it looks like they have 2 low-mid 25 guys and 2 low 26 guys which is an obvious improvement from the last 10 years. I've heard that there are actually some really great places to run there at the state parks in the area.
