Where did your dad allegedly go to medical school-somewhere in the Dominican Republic? I feel sorry for his patients if this is the advice that he is providing to them. Go away you troll and take your father's bogus MD with him.

what are the odds of running a 27:3x 10k while being both asthmatic and hypothyroid?
rupp is truly an inspiration! how does he do it?
how is it that salazar's choice of a "team physician" just happens to be an expert on epo and doping protocols (he helped write the tests) and just happens to be the defense doctor of choice for dirty little tyler hamilton?
adam goucher and your wife sure are hangin' with some dirty dudes to be such an anti-drug crusader.
dry mountain air?

and not to mention all of his runners upon arrival in Oregon are miraculously diagnosed with exercise induced asthma (yes the gouchers too) and given steroid inhalants. Funny but how the f*** can the gouchers be all americans at altitude in Colorado and not have been diagnosed before..hmmm...curious. He does have doctors that will prescribe this shit..of course at a cost. If you ain't cheatin', you ain't trying right Al? Good luck with your next heart attack.
Read "Running With the Buffaloes", Adam has had problems with allergies his whole life.

Prolonged use of steroids can cause hypothyroidism.
My wife has it along with my two daughters, guess I need to play the lottery!?!?
This kind of reminds me of a time when it seemed like everyone had exercise induced asthma... Alot of people were using inhalers which Can enhance performance even though it was/is questionable if they REALLY have asthma.... Hard to say for sure.... Who knows ??? ... Salzar may be grasping for some kind of dubious diagnosis but I would'nt call him a cheater....
Your old man is not much of an endocrinologist. Hypothyroidism caused by thyroiditis is surprisingly common. Anyway too much thyroid hormone will not help your running,it will make you jittery ,unable to relax, riase your heart rate while still---it will not give you boundless energy. I've been there.

Thats a good question but irrelevant.
Not really... My point is, you can't look at the problems an elite runner has and claim that it's cheating because it's out of wack with the general population. When in fact the person is out of wack with the general population to begin with. You shouldn't expect them to be just like us... because they've already proven they are not.
Thyroid hormone + HGH is like peanut butter and jelly...

Not so fast boss. I have in the past and currently deal with occasional bouts of wheezing associated with allergies. I don't consider myself to be asthmatic, but I have had an inhaler in the past (prescribed by my doc) for this problem.

Genetic relationship?
midwaste how extensive were the tests that you needed
to take to determine the cause of your wheezing.
I ask because I recently had a bout of wheezing that I
can't be sure caused it. I'm not a diagnosed asthmatic
or allergy sufferer.
As a kid I had the whole series of allergy skin tests done. I've had allergies all my life. I don't think the doc did any additional testing though. Just gave me an inhaler and sent me on my way.
My wheezing was usually in association with or brought on by the usual allergy symptoms. Cats seem to get me the worst.
I don't get "asthma attacks", nor do I really get EIA, just wheezing with allergies.
However I will say that any potential lung irritant can cause bronchoconstriction and wheezing, so it's plausible that you could have an episode of wheezing without having allergies or asthma per se.
...can't argue with ignorant people.
I'm 41 and was diagnosed HYPO in 2002. Before that, I had severe allergies that would knock me off my feet at times. Once I was diagnosed and given proper treatment (daily), my allergies almost disappeared. It didn't happen overnight but took about 3 years. There can definitely be a correlation between respiratory problems and a thyroid condition.

Don't even have to look at the "endocrinologist." The guy doesn't even know what 1% means (hint: it is NOT 1/1000). Also he doesn't know anything about statistics. The probability for the particular members all having the event is different from, say, 3 of 25 members of a training group having hypothyroidism.
Also, it is well known in medicine that, while the principal cause of the diesease is probably genetic, adrenal insufficiency, caused by CHRONIC STRESS, is a major contributing factor or cause.
It may well be that, given Nike's prior involvement with AW, this IS being used for performance gains (believed or otherwise), but given where Goucher went to college and how Salazar trained himself, there may be a common cause in chronic overtraining. Another reason for Dr. Vigil's guidance that high school runners should not exceed 50mpw.
Lou Gehrig, Stephen Hawking, and David Niven all have or had Lou Gehrig's disease, which only occurs in one out of every 100,000 people. The odds of all three having it is 1/1,000,000,000,000,000. They must have all been using steroids!
